What is the biggest, and in some people’s opinion, the oddest trend of the last six months? It’s a trend that lots of people are a bit marmite about – you either love it or you hate it! Of course, I am taking about the eye brow craze. It is HUGE at the moment. And being a blogger, I have taken it upon myself to trial some of the latest eye brow game-upping products from the high street.
I have chosen to review the Rimmel Brow This Way powder. If you know me at all, you’ll know that I LOVE Rimmel and am a very loyal customer of theirs! I’ve done lots of posts on Rimmel products previously, hit the link to have a nose!
First impressions of the product was that it was teeny tiny. Perfect for stuffing in your clutch on a night out if your eye brow slides off! I ordered this product online and although I love the postman (usually because he’s coming with new blog things!) this old postie was a little vigorous with his delivery, it would seem, because my compact little pot of powder arrived in pieces. Yes, the worst had happened. My powder had broken all over the packaging. I salvaged what I could and, luckily, could use the product as intended. Phew!
As you can see from my photos, I did my best to salvage the mess and was relieved to find that it was saveable! This dinky little pallette included a fine tipped double edged brush which is very tiny to hold. Luckily I’ve little hands. The two shades inside consisted of a darker, chalkier powder on the left and a lighter, waxier layer on the right.
Being a blogger, I am addicted to make up posts and tutorial videos so immediately starting searching for hints and tips on how to best apply this product. I have to admit, I am newbie to the eye brow trend so my first attempt was a little dodgy. I wasn’t very confident applying this product as I know how badly it can be if your eye brows just aren’t on point.
Sadly, using the product was not as easy as you would first think. The powder was very flaky and ended up flecked all over my face as I tried to apply it – not a good look, especially when your make up was on point. This meant that I had to desperately try to save my makeup, waste time and money and look STUPID! The waxy lighter colour was so thick and gloopy that it was either impossible to apply or too thick that my eye brows looked slicked down. I did not get on with this product one bit! It ended up showing the natural shape of my eye brows more and turning the skin around them a weird orange colour.
I know, I know, the orange could be a side effect of me being a bit overzealous with the foundation but honestly, it wasn’t! My skin around my eye brows was such a horrific colour that it was actually funny. I have naturally very dark brown hair and my eye brows are a similar colour – the powder made them look BLACK – I’m talking black shoe polish black. First day of school new shoes, black shoe polish black. It didn’t add any definition and actually plastered my eye brows down making them look greasy and kinda wirey. Even if I only applied minimal these bad effects happened! Nightmare!
Needless to say, I wasn’t very impressed with this product at all! In fact it’s put me off so much that I refuse to even use any products on eye brows for fear of looking ridiculous! So, I am going au naturel. Yes, it may look like my eye brows are disappearing and I may not be “on fleek” but I’d rather go unnoticed than stand out like a sore thumb for having big orange rings around big black slugs above my eyes! Sorry, Rimmel, I still love you but I just can’t do it to myself!
I’d love to hear how you got on with your eye brow products! Any success stories or hilarious blunders like me?
