Wedding Trends For 2021 Part 1

But what about weddings? It’s really felt like that for us COVID brides over the last year or so and it’s been tough. I am a bride to be and I’ll be totally honest, I feel over it most days. I want my day to come but the fear of it being cancelled for a fourth time is too much to bare. Now that we’re in July, I’m happy to say that weddings are coming back! They may not be the all singing, all dancing weddings of pre-COVID but we get some wedded bliss. Here are my top wedding trends for 2021!

Outdoor Weddings

It’s a no brainer, really isn’t it. With COVID restrictions and the aftermath of the virus, outdoor venues are a huge trend for summer 2021 weddings. Weather in the UK can make this a bit difficult but loads of venues have back ups like marquees and tents just in case the heavens open.

I am personally having an outdoor wedding, we love the idea of the sun shining down on us and the music travelling along with laughter. The photos will be gorgeous and our photographer is a pro at capturing amazing moments with the nature around the guests.

Outdoor weddings are really easy to style and put your own personal stamp on. I’m a big fan of twinkly fairy lights, bunting and DIY bits that really make it your own.

Pampas Grass & Dried Flowers Vibe

If you don’t have some pampas grass somewhere in your house, are you even a blogger? The fascination with dried flowers has been huge over the last year and the trend is sticking around for summer 2021 weddings.

Dried grass and flowers can give a really boho feel to any wedding – a vibe that I am really behind. It’s a really versatile product, you can create bouquets, flower crowns, table decorations, flower walls and loads more with them.

Personally, I’d be happy for this trend to stick around for summer weddings to come!

Bold Flowers

When my sister got married two years ago, her bouquets were incredible. She had succulents in them, there were lillies and amazing blues and pinks. Her bouquet was a dream.

This summer, you’ll be seeing more bold flowers and even bolder colours. Think huge displays, big bold blooms and huge flower walls.

I am all for the garish displays, the flower crowns and the backdrops with pops of colour – life has felt very grey and dreary for the longest time, so why not embrace all the colour!? Bold, bright floral displays also make the perfect backdrop for your photos. So, be sure to discuss incorporating your flowers into your images with your wedding photographer to capture a lasting memory of their beauty.

Elopements

COVID has meant that big days have had to go on pause, be postponed and shrunk. Man have felt the struggle and it’s left lots of couples rethinking their dream days.

Elopements are now more popular than ever. People want to get away and get hitched and enjoy a long break and mini honeymoon all in one.

If you are considering eloping, that’s amazing. Be aware that you might upset a few people and it may be controversial in your family but, ultimately, you are the one getting married, not them!

You don’t owe anyone anything, especially not a party or a shindig. Your wedding is what you want it to be and God knows you deserve to do exactly what you want after the last few years!

Customisable Face Masks

Back in the day, weddings would see customisable hip flasks, necklaces, key rings, shot glasses – you name it, it could be done.

In a new COVID world, it’s all about customised face masks. Yep, you read that right. I mean, it makes perfect sense doesn’t it. The best thing about this new trend is that the masks can double up as a wedding favour.

Your guests can wear them as and when they need to during your wedding and then reuse them for their supermarket trips, walks and coffee shop dates.

Weekday Weddings

Another hangover from COVID, us brides need to secure our date when we can. That means wedding guests need to be flexible with dates and times. Weekday weddings used to be non-existent.

Now though, I’m sure you’ll be receiving invitations to weddings on all days of the week and you’ll just have to go with it. I’m not against a weekday wedding – Lord knows we’ll have loads of holiday days due to us so we can afford a few days out of the office!
