24 Month Milestones & Development For Your Toddler

Can you believe it? My little bundle of joy is now a thriving toddler, full of energy, curiosity, and boundless enthusiasm. The last two years have absolutely flown by. This blog post is dedicated to any fellow toddler parents. As your toddler continues to grow and explore the world around them, they’ll be reaching some exciting milestones along the way. So grab a cup of coffee (or a well-deserved glass of wine), and let’s chat about all the amazing things your two-year-old is up to!

Language & Communication

First things first, let’s talk about language development. By the time your toddler reaches the ripe old age of two, they’ll likely be chattering up a storm, stringing together simple sentences, and maybe even starting to use pronouns like “I” and “me.”

We certainly have this in our house with Jack. He is very aware of his possessions and wanting what is his. It’s not secret that we are a family of chatterboxes and Jack seems to be enjoying conversations at a surprising rate.

Your toddler will be expanding their vocabulary every day, soaking up new words like a sponge, and delighting you with their newfound ability to express themselves. So get ready for lots of “why” questions, endless stories about their favourite toys, and plenty of adorable mispronunciations that will make your heart melt.

It’s more than talking…

But it’s not just about talking – your two-year-old is also busy mastering other important skills, like walking, running, and climbing. By now, they’re probably a pro at toddling around on two feet, and they may even be starting to jump, skip, and hop with glee. And let’s not forget about their fine motor skills – those little fingers are getting more dexterous by the day, making it easier for them to stack blocks, scribble with crayons, and feed themselves (albeit with a fair amount of messiness).

Potty Training

Speaking of feeding themselves, let’s talk about another milestone your two-year-old may be reaching: potty training! While every child is different, many toddlers start showing an interest in using the potty around this age, and with a little encouragement and lots of patience, they’ll soon be mastering this important milestone. So stock up on plenty of stickers, rewards, and maybe even a few extra pairs of underwear, and get ready to celebrate every successful trip to the potty like it’s a major achievement (because it totally is)!

We aren’t quite there yet with Jack. He can tell us after the fact and can communicate to an extent but my mothering instinct is telling me to hold off for a few more months. My plan is to go for it when the weather is a little nicer and we can play at home freely. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes…

Big Emotions

Of course, let’s not forget about social and emotional development. Your two-year-old is learning to navigate the world of friendships and emotions, figuring out how to share, take turns, and express their feelings in healthy ways. They may start showing empathy and compassion for others, comforting a friend who’s upset or offering a hug when they sense someone needs it. And while tantrums may still be a regular occurrence (hey, it’s all part of the toddler experience), you’ll also start to see glimpses of their growing independence and sense of self.

Your Two Year Old At A Glance

From mastering language and motor skills to conquering the potty and navigating the complex world of emotions, your little one is growing and changing every day, and it’s such a joy to witness.
