Organising Life on Maternity Leave With My Personal Planner

There’s something about maternity leave that no one quite prepares you for. The days are long, the nights are longer, and suddenly time becomes this blurry mix of feeds, naps, coffee (iced for me nowadays), and trying to remember what day it actually is.

And whilst I am 100% loving it knowing that this will be my last ever maternity leave, there’s also a quiet craving for a little bit of structure — something that feels like you in the middle of it all.

That’s exactly where a Personalised Planner completely changed things for me.

Finding a rhythm in the chaos

When I first started maternity leave, I thought I wouldn’t need a planner. I fully embraced the newborn bubble and loved the idea of days blurring into one another. But, with a pre-schooler in tow, I soon realised that we needed something to keep track of his social life if nothing else.

Between midwife appointments, baby groups, remembering when I last showered, tracking shows I’ve watched, and trying to carve out five minutes for myself, my brain felt like a browser with 47 tabs open.

What I needed wasn’t rigidity — it was gentle organisation.

Why I chose a Personalised Planner

The beauty of Personalised planner is that it adapts to your life — not the other way around.

The Personal Planner A5 Spiral Binding is designed exactly for that. It’s not just a diary — it’s something you can fully tailor to your current season of life.

Here’s what made it feel perfect for maternity leave:

  • You can choose your own start month (because who starts anything in January with a newborn?)
  • Multiple weekly layouts to suit how your brain works right now
  • Add important dates (hello vaccinations and baby classes)
  • Up to 60 themed pages — think trackers, lists, or even journaling space
  • A genuinely practical A5 size — small enough for the changing bag, big enough to actually use

It’s that mix of functional and personal that makes it feel a little bit special.

The unexpected emotional side

I thought a planner would just help me stay organised.

But honestly? It did more than that.

It gave me:

  • A sense of identity outside of “mum”
  • A place to clear my head
  • A reminder that small things still count

On days where everything felt a bit overwhelming, writing things down made life feel just a little more manageable.

Making it yours

One of my favourite parts is designing the cover.

Whether it’s a photo of your baby, a soft neutral aesthetic, or something bright and uplifting — it becomes your planner in the truest sense.

And in a season where so much of your life revolves around someone else, that feels really important.

Final thoughts

Maternity leave isn’t about being perfectly organised. It’s messy, emotional, beautiful, exhausting — all at once.

But having a personalised planner? It’s like a quiet little anchor in the middle of it all.

Not to control your days — just to gently hold them together.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
