10 Spooky Recipes and Bakes to Make with Toddlers

With Halloween creeping up on us, there’s nothing better than getting into the spooky spirit with a little kitchen fun. Toddlers and baking can be a chaotic combo (trust me, I know!) but it’s all about making memories and making it fun. Halloween is the perfect excuse to get messy, creative, and treat ourselves! Whether your little one is a budding baker or just loves sneaking treats, these spooky recipes are easy, fun, and perfect for little hands.
Let’s get baking!

1. Mummy Hot Dogs

This one is an absolute hit with toddlers! My little dude loves this one because it’s messy and easy and even if it doesn’t go to plan, the outcome always looks good.

All you need are some hot dogs and ready-made puff pastry or crescent dough. Simply wrap the dough around the hot dog, leaving a little gap for “eyes.” Bake until golden, then dot on some eyes with mustard or ketchup. They’re spooky, delicious, and so simple your toddler can help wrap them!

These are from House of Nash Eats and they are perfect.

2. Ghostly Banana Pops

Looking for a healthy-ish Halloween treat? These banana ghosts are perfect! Cut bananas in half, pop them onto a stick, and dip them in melted white chocolate or yoghurt. Add mini chocolate chips for eyes and freeze until solid. Your toddler will love helping to dip and decorate these friendly ghost treats!

3. Spooky Spider Cupcakes

Bake your favourite cupcakes (chocolate always works well!) and let your toddler go wild with the decorating. Use black or chocolate icing to create the body of the spider, then add mini pretzels or pretzel sticks for legs and candy eyes to finish the look. They’re more cute than creepy, and a lot of fun to make together! ️This one is great for encouraging independence if you can stand the mess!

4. Witch’s Brew Smoothie

A healthier spooky snack, but still so much fun! Whip up a green smoothie with spinach, banana, and some coconut milk for that perfect “witch’s brew” vibe. Pour it into clear cups, and let your toddler help add spooky decorations – think Halloween-themed straws or edible eyeballs made of grapes. Healthy, delicious, and a little magical! ‍Jack is currently OBSESSED with Room on the Broom so this one is a current favourite. We pretend the blender is the cauldron and throw all the ingredients in together and say our spell!

5. Monster Rice Krispie Treats

Rice Krispie treats are a toddler favourite, and they’re so easy to turn spooky! Whip up a batch of marshmallow Krispie treats, then decorate with green, purple, or orange icing. Add googly candy eyes, sprinkles, and anything else your toddler fancies to create little monster faces. Perfect for munching on during a Halloween movie night! ️

6. Pumpkin Patch Brownies

For something a little more indulgent, bake up some fudgy brownies, and once they’ve cooled, let your toddler “plant” mini pumpkins on top. Use orange icing or candy melts to pipe little pumpkins. It’s a great way to introduce your toddler to simple decorating, and who doesn’t love a rich brownie?!

7. Ghost Toast

A super quick and easy Halloween breakfast idea! Toast up some bread, cut it into a ghost shape using a cookie cutter and then spread it with cream cheese or butter. Your toddler can help decorate the ghost with fruit or chocolate chips for eyes and a mouth. It’s simple, cute, and gets everyone in the spooky spirit first thing in the morning!

8. Bloody Finger Cookies

This one is more for the brave little bakers! Make some simple sugar cookies and shape them into long, thin “fingers.” Add an almond slice at the end for a “fingernail” and brush the base with red jam or icing for that extra spooky effect. They’re creepy but guaranteed to get giggles from your toddler. We have tried this a few times and it’s been mostly disasterours, but that’s part of the fun.

9. Jack-o’-Lantern Pizzas

Mini pizzas are always a win, and turning them into Jack-o’-Lanterns? Even better! Use mini tortilla wraps or pre-made pizza bases and let your toddler help spread on tomato sauce and sprinkle cheese. Then, cut out pumpkin faces from pepperoni, olives, or veggies for them to place on top. Bake and enjoy your spooky little pizzas together!

10. Chocolate Spider Webs

Now this last one is super simple. All you need is a handful of pretzels or Mikado sticks, melted chocolate and a bit of imagination. Set the melted chocolate into a spot in the middle of baking paper and lay each stick out in a spider web position. Then secure it with more melted chocolate. If you can be patient enough, let the chocolate set before eating.

People Also Ask…

What can 2 year olds have for Halloween?

Some great toddler treat options include plain chocolate, such as small Hershey’s bars, Yum Yum Earth pops or other flat lollipops, Bunnies & Bats Treats, spider rings, small crayon packs, and fruit leathers. There are also Halloween themed applesauce pouches and pretzels that can be good options too.

Why is my 2 year old obsessed with Halloween?

There are many reasons tots might get attached to these types of images, from having a really great time on Halloween to getting the sense that spookier books, shows, and games are somehow more grown-up. And finally, toddlers, like all people, can get a taste for being a little scared as a way of processing emotions.

How do I teach my 2 year old about Halloween?

Reading books to your child about trick-or-treating—and Halloween in general—are great ways to help that discussion. You might even want to have your child practice dressing up in their costume before the big day. Toddlers need to know that Halloween is just for fun and the scary stuff is all pretend.
