Instagram Reels – Love or Hate Them?

Instagram Reels are the brand new feature released to the social media channel that we all love to hate. In true Instagram fashion, they have cannibalised something that worked really well on another platform (ahem, TikTok) and restyled it for themselves. Smart move on their part, sneaky but smart. As a blogger or even in my personal life, I just didn’t get TikTok, all of a sudden it made me feel 100 years old at 28. However, now that Insta have introduced them I think I might be able to get on board. So here is a blog post with a run down of what you can expect from Instagram Reels and whether you should use them or not!

Instagram Reels - love them or hate them?

What Are Instagram Reels?

Reels are a way for you to share, view and engage with video style content on Instagram. They can pretty much be videos of anything, but obviously in keeping with Insta’s rules and regulations.

Instagram Reels are 15 second videos of whatever you choose that can be edited, sped up, slowed down, sticker’ed on, you can add music and so much more! These reels are mini videos that can be funny, informative or behind the scenes. They can be whatever you want them to be. They can be shared to your Instagram feed & Stories and can be found on your profile next to IGTV. The goal of Reels is to create content that is engaging and shareable!

Purpose Fuels Passion

If you are a beauty enthusiast, it’s an opportunity to share your make up looks, your dos and don’ts, your beauty room and more.

If you are a fashion addict, it’s your chance to show off your latest haul, try on your bits and show your flare for fahion.

If you are an influencer or micro-influencer, like me, it’s a chance to your share your blog content in a new, fast and exciting medium.

Why are Instagram Reels good?

Reels offer content creators the opportunity to reach a larger audience with new and different content.

Because I am still new to Reels, I asked my audience directly what they would like to see using my Instagram Stories, which you might have seen this week:

Instagram Poll to say that the majority of followers like Instagram Reels
Here I ask my followers whether they like/dislike Reels
Poll to see what my followers would want to see in my Instagram Reels
My audience voted like crazy!

As you can see from the polls I’ve been holding on my Instagram, all of my followers LOVE the Reels! My audience are incredibly important to my channel and because of the unanimous vote of “love them” I have decided to expand my content to include Reels so that my audience continues to get what they want!

How To Use Reels As A Blogger

Here is my plan for my first few blogger style Reels:
– Three Facts About Me
– An Introduction To LoveRosiee
– Latest Blogger Mail Unboxing
– A Secret Fashion Post Reveal (stay friggin tuned)
– BTS of blogging/flatlays

I’ve chosen to add my Reels to my feed rather than just my Stories

How To Create A Reel

There are loads of tools that you can use to help create your Reels – you can also create the whole thing in one using Instagram. As I’m new to the whole thing, I’m planning my videos in three sections. For example:
– For a nail technique reveal I have planned, I’ve taken a five second video of my nails naked, a five second video of the nails about half way done and then a final 5 second video of the finished product.
– I will then go into Instagram and splice the video together using the Reels formatting.

Being new to all of this is actually a huge bonus because, like me, you can experiment with third party apps that have loads of cool features. I’m currently testing out an app called InShot – it’s really easy to use and is like iMovie on your phone!

Whatever content you want to create, get creative, be yourself and make sure it’s as engaging as possible! If you do not show much of your personal life on your feeds, this is a great opportunity to. If you love to play with video editing you will love this!

It looks like Reels are here to stay, people are loving them, loving to create them and loving seeing them! So, let’s jump on the Reel train!
