Light Up Your Garden This Summer

This summer has been a weird one hasn’t it!? The global pandemic that has forced us all to be super careful and stay at home and the freak weather – as I type this at my desk the rain is raging outside, but this time last week the temperatures were hotter than the Caribbean! I am definitely enjoying the summer and the freedom but I am also loving having the opportunity to pimp my house and garden by decorating, adding my personal touches and also adding outside lights. Today’s post is all about lighting up your garden to see out the rest of this unprecedented summer!

Summer Lighting Ideas

I love the summer and I love that my day begins with natural light flooding my brand new bedroom. I am definitely a summer bean and love the long, drawn out evenings where I can sit in the garden, read a book and drink some wine.

I use Pinterest A LOT for home inspiration and when I was working on my home renovation late last year, it was my bible for being able to show my builders my vibe, my wishlist and my style.

My new bedroom is a dream – the only down side is that we’ve had to down grade from a king size bed to a double. I am totally fine with it but my man is less pleased. While we’ve been living in the room for a handful of months now, it still doesn’t feel finished because of the lack of lamps and lighting.

Here are some of my ideas to give the room a new lease of life:

Outdoor Lighting Ideas

Once lockdown regulations lifted slightly, we decided to upgrade our garden space and renew the old decking that we bought with the house. We are really fortunate to have a lovely big space for our garden and I really wanted something positive to come out of this year for our home. Our wedding, honeymoon and wedding reception has been cancelled and now postponed, so it felt good to have a positive project to work on and I know we’ll use the deck every summer and remember this weird summer.

Of course, before speaking to our gardeners, I shared loads of ideas for hammocks from HammockGiant and LED decking lights for the garden with them from companies like Light Supplier and, of course, my Pinterest boards!

Here are some of my ideas:

Grey decking is a big win for me, I think that it looks really smart. I also love the idea of LED lights on the rise of the stairs rather than foot lights. I always think that when lights are stood up in a line, it looks like a mini airstrip!

I LOVE the LED lights that frame decking, I think it is subtle for early evening sun downers in the garden and wont keep you awake with ridiculous brightness throughout the night!

When putting together the drawings for our new decking, we knew we wanted lighting but we weren’t sure whether we wanted any kind of banister or partition. Our garden is fairly open so having a segmentation kind of didn’t feel natural , so instead, we opted for climbing roses on the edges that are up-lit!

LED Lighting Garden Goals

This beautiful snap from Pinterest is just pure, bohemian garden goals! My garden does not and probably will never look like this but this picture has been shared among all of my gardeners and building help! The idea of hanging lantern style lighting and shelter from a tree is a yes from me. My garden is not covered, it’s pretty open so this wouldn’t work but it might do at the bottom for an adult deck!

When planning my garden update, I did love the idea of going full on Love Island. The outside space in the Villa is gorgeous and I love the idea of gathering in front of a fire pit on a comfy long sofa or garden chairs. There would be no coupling up, simply some wine and s’mores!

The thing that drew me to this snap for LED lighting is the under seat positioning that wont force people to go inside because it is too harsh or getting in anyone’s eyes. I love lighting to be a guide along the garden rather than a beacon!

Needless to say, my man has been very busy buying lights, shopping with me and putting up with my dream ideas! But, what the hell, your home is your castle and it’s the place I am more than happy to be while the world recovers from this crazy virus!
