Jet-Setting with Toddlers: Top Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey
Traveling with little ones can be a breeze with a bit of preparation. We love a family getaway and Jet2’s option of all-inclusive always has us booking up fast. As a family, we aren’t afraid of travelling but here are some of my tried and tested tips to ensure your family holiday takes off without a hitch:
Embrace Flexibility
While planning is crucial, be ready to adapt. Kids can be unpredictable, so allow for downtime and be open to spontaneous activities that cater to their energy levels. Try not to stress when things don’t go fully to plan and embrace the chaos. Allow yourself plenty of time to be where you need to be just in case.
Pack Smart
Rolling clothes instead of folding can save space and minimize wrinkles. Use large ziplock bags for organizing outfits and essentials, making it easier to locate items quickly. I like to prepare Jack’s entire outfit, including pants and socks, and roll it all together in one. Then when it comes to unpacking I’ve got entire outfits ready to go.
Ear Pressure Easing
During take-off and landing, help your toddler equalize ear pressure by encouraging them to suck on a clean finger or dummy. If you’ve got an older child like me, encourage them to drink some fluids or take a squeezy yoghurt. This simple trick can alleviate discomfort and prevent tears.

Entertainment Arsenal
Load up your devices with child-friendly apps, games, and videos. Offline content is a lifesaver when Wi-Fi is unavailable. We told Jack that iPads only work on airplanes so that in itself is a huge novelty. We load it with his favourite shows like The Gruffalo & Room on the Broom on BBC iPlayer. Additionally, interactive toys and colouring books can keep little hands busy.
Snack Attack
Bring a variety of healthy snacks to keep hunger at bay and avoid relying solely on in-flight offerings. Familiar treats can also provide comfort in an unfamiliar environment. I do Jack a little packed lunch using a lunchbox with lots of different sections.
Routine Reminders
Try to stick to your child’s regular schedule as much as possible, including nap times and meals. A well-rested toddler is a happier traveller. We LOVE visiting the Canary Islands because there is zero time difference to the UK which means we can stick to his routine and avoid jet lag!
Safety First
Keep a small first-aid kit handy with essentials like plasters, antiseptic wipes, and any necessary medications. It’s always better to be prepared for minor mishaps. One mum-hack I swear by is to always pack a spare set of clothes for myself – because with little ones, you never know!
With these tips in your travel toolkit, you’re all set for a memorable summer adventure with Jet2 from London Luton. Here’s to smooth flights, happy toddlers, and unforgettable family moments!
