Welcome to the new look to beauty posts on LoveRosiee.. it’s something I’ve wanted to do for the longest time and I thought, it’s a New Year, why not now!? Rated by Rosie! is a new series from me doing, you guessed, ratings of lots of amazing bits I get to try out, play with and also buy myself just for you all! It’s starting to take shape with beauty posts (posts very close to my heart!) and it will hopefully form into fashion posts as well as lifestyle and events! I can’t wait to see where my Rated! posts go but I am very excited to have you along for the ride with me!
The first ever post in my Rated! series is a beauty nugget that I am very passionate about and you’ll see why! So, here goes.. Rated By Rosie! L’Oreal VS Smashbox!
If you’ve ever visited my blog or my Socials, you’ll know that I suffer with a weird stress side effect; when I feel overly anxious or worried my eye lashes do a disappearing act! Yep, I’m not aware that it’s actual a medical problem or just another odd Rosie-ism but it’s a big ol’ pain in the butt! You’ll know that I am quite a stressy person – not an angry one just a worry wart! So, when I am wearing fake lashes you’ll know it’s because my lashes have left me or have only grown to sparse stumps!
So, I felt it only right to dedicate my first Rated! post to mascara! It’s an everyday product for many and getting a good one is something lots will know is no mean feat! The market is absolutely flooded with mascaras that promise the world.. you can get ones that come with lash primers; ones with amazing sounding fanned out wands to help grab every single lash; ones that clump lashes together.. you name it, they promise it!
I’m comparing two brands that I LOVE today! L’Oreal and Smashbox!
Let’s talk promises from each brand before we decide if they are empty or not!
Miss manga features a 360 degree flexible brush for effortless application.
Its unique brush has a flat surface to intensify and amplify upper lashes while its conical shape capture the lower lashes.
Formulated with collagen spheres and polymers for ultimate volume and hold. 360 degree flexible cone shaped brush to grab every lashes on top and bottom.
This ultra-buildable mascara lets you easily take your lashes from PG to X-Rated in seconds. Our triple threat brush loads up the maximum amount of our fiber-loaded formula to build your look. With each swipe, lashes are isolated, magnified and mega-coated for hyper, thick voluptuous lashes that photograph flawlessly in any close-up. No double-dipping required.
Let’s get down to the dirty stuff shall we?
First up, L’Oreal’s brush. I actually do really like the tilted element of it; it’s quite easy to pop in and out and it can be done while gently coating your lashes. I like the brush size, the spheres do make it easier to catch even the smallest, growing lashes! I find it easy to apply the mascara because you can use the wand with both hands if needed. The product, however, doesn’t live up to the hype. It is clumpy and sticks and clags to the wand which makes over application quite hard. It’s method is brilliant but with over use – and it is an everyday product so over use is a definite! – it doesn’t work that well! Shame!
Smashbox X Rated tells all about buildable application with no double-dipping needed! And I actually couldn’t agree more! The wand is crazy long and the first time I used it I did a typical Rosie and poked myself in the eye with it! The fibres feel more sturdy and you can really feel them grabbing hold of your lashes, even the smallest ones, and gently coating them in the even product. They’re correct when it comes to building the product which WINS it for me!
It’s so diverse that with one swish of the wand you’re ready for a day at work but if you’re after a more full on made up look, just gently keep applying the product without having to pump and pump!
So, drum roll please…
The WINNER of the first ever RATED! By Rosie Beauty post is the Smashbox X Rated Mascara!
It massively outshines L’Oreal when it comes to the actual mascara; wands aside, the product is much better! The mascara with L’Oreal is easily clumped, excessive and far too thick. Smashbox have the perfect balance of thinner product that is really easy to build.
The L’Oreal wand is something to be awed but sadly it’s let down by the rest of the product!
