48 Hours In Aberdeen: My Top Picks

We can now travel again and I am absolutely buzzing. Last year, during the worst of the lockdowns, I made a pledge that I would travel as much as possible when we were once again allowed to. I’ve got some lovely trips and weekends away planned and I can’t wait to pack a suitcase and get exploring. If you’ve got 48 hours to adventure around Aberdeen, you’ll need my top picks!

Take A Tour

Aberdeen is incredibly picturesque. If you’re a history geek like me, you’ll want to see what kind of history surrounds you when enjoying the Scottish land. There are loads of tour companies that take you around the town and to the beaches. My preferred spot to enjoy is the Dunnottar Castle and Royal Deeside – as a Windsor girl, I love a good castle!

Head To The Beach

Now that summer has rolled around, it’s easy to forget that tropical beaches exist. The balmy temperatures in June, July & August make everyday feel like a holiday. Aberdeen has some lovely, picturesque beaches, Balmedie being my favourite. And, with beaches like this one, there’s no need to wait in baggage handling and queue for passport control with a mask on.

You may only have a limited time in Aberdeen, but you should definitely experience a Scottish beach day – it’s really something special.

Taste The Local Delicacies

Scotland, and Aberdeen in particular, is famous for Scotch Whisky. My man wouldn’t let us venture all that way without trying the locally made whisky and foods. He’s a massive whiskey drinker and already had tabs on visiting the Speyside Whisky Trail. On a bright day, you can explore where the liquid gold is made, sample, sip and giggle your way around the tour.

Go For Cocktails

You can’t have a weekend away without going for cocktails, can you!? I feel like 2021 and the years follow will become my own tour of the UK via cocktail bars. The city of Aberdeen has lots of cool and unique cocktail bars for you to try. Being a city that is steeped in history and mixed with lots of people of all ages, you’re sure to find a wild night out without having to look too hard.

My top picks include Slains Castle who have the coolest decor and the biggest cocktails; Topolabamba where you can people watch and sip drinks in the intimate setting; and Thaikhun where you can eat incredible nibbles, laugh and dance in your seat!

Explore Chocolate

Who knew that Aberdeen was home to one of the coolest chocolate workshops!? I am a huge chocolate lover, I am addicted to the stuff. I’ve never done any kind of chocolate workshop but I’d really love to. With Cocoa Ooze, you can learn how to make chocolate truffles and chocolate bars with different flavours. You can make enough to take home and munch on when you’re hungover from all of the cocktails. Dreamy.

Aberdeen locals are some of the kindest that you can ever to wish to meet. No matter what street you pop down, there’s always a friendly face and everyone says good morning. If you’re a clueless tourist like me, you’re sure to find someone to help you!

The city of Aberdeen has the best of every world: city life, seaside wandering and rural feels. I picture myself as a beach babe, even up in bonny Scotland. I’ll be booking my seat at The Captain’s Table to try all of the local seafood, cold beer and local music. I can’t wait to hear the sound of the sea and seagulls, the whoosh of salty sea air on my skin and the tangles in my hair from a day of fun.

I love the city but the coast has my heart!
