2021 Beauty Trend: Gua Sha
There’s one little tool that you’re probably seeing everywhere in the beauty and skincare world right now. It’s a small, shiny piece of equipment that people swear by! Today’s blog post is all about 2021’s biggest beauty trend: the Gua Sha.

What Is Gua Sha?

A Gua Sha is a tool offered in alternative skincare and beauty therapy. It can be made of marble or jade stone. The tool is palm sized and used to scrape the top layer of the skin on your face, chin and neck.
Created to help boost circulation and drain your lymph nodes, the Gua Sha follows ancient Chinese practices and healing.
How Does The Gua Sha Help My Skin?
By using the Gua Sha, you stimulate microcirculation and increase the blood flow to the areas that need it most.
When applying the Gua Sha to your skin, you will lubricate the area that the stone passes with a moisturiser. You will see the top layer of your skin redden from the pressure but it is not painful.
What Does It Feel Like?

If done at the right pressure (very light and gliding), the Gua Sha will feel like a gentle massage across your face. Your skin should feel soothed by the moisturiser, cooled by the tool and plumper once completed.
Your skin should not feel pulled, sore or tender – if this is the case, you may need to try a deeper moisturiser and a softer pressure when applying to your skin.
Benefits Of Using Gua Sha

Migraine relief
Some have said that when they feel the symptoms of a migraine sneaking up on them, a quick 3 minute application of their Gua Sha helps them dissipate.
While this is still disputed by some medical professionals, anything that stops me reaching for the painkillers works for me!
Neck Pain
For the first lockdown and for most of 2020, I was stuck working from home on my kitchen island. My posture, back and neck suffered massively.
I still get shuddering’s of that neck pain and the only thing that makes it quieten down is my my Gua Sha. The back of my neck in particular responds really well to the stone being rubbed quite firmly up and down.
Youthful Looks
The act of microcirculation to the skin on your skin brings blood to the surface immediately. It forces your skin to tighten and drains your lymph nodes.
With continued use of a Gua Sha, you will look more youthful. Your skin will be plumper. You will look more youthful from the stimulation to your skin.

My Recommended Gua Sha Brands
I first received this tool in December for Ark Skincare’s Christmas Virtual Event.
I then received another version from Mavala for their January Blues Virtual Event.
Both of these brands are high up on my list of top skincare, so I couldn’t possibly pick a winner. But I would 100% recommend going directly to these brands rather than somewhere like amazon!
Do you use a Gua Sha? What are your thoughts on this kind of skincare tool?
