AD – Safely Staycation In Cornwall

2020 has been a tough year and we all deserve a break! The days of airport lounges, duty free and long lost vacations across the world are limited to us these days (thanks Corona). But there is so much on our doorstep to enjoy. This Autumn, I can show you how to safely staycation in gorgeous, picturesque Cornwall!

Cornwall is somewhere that I used to visit every year on holiday as a child. My entire seven person family and often cousins and grandparents too (yep, I’m one of five siblings) would pack up the cars and drive down the five hour journey to beautiful Cornwall.

Some of my favourite childhood mornings are of us playing in the sea. we used to love getting dressed up to go the little club house. I hated, being woken up by seagulls on our caravan roof. Long walks over cliffs and sand EVERYWHERE fills my mind! I cant recommend Cornwall enough as an ideal location for a safe staycation.

Here are some places in the West Country that I’d like to go to while abiding by the government’s social distancing rules:

Polperro & Looe

Polperro is an incredibly picturesque and unique place to visit when in Cornwall. A harbour and fishing village that is only accessible by foot, it is the perfect maize of cobbled streets, hidden back roads and alleyways out to the sea air. It is quaint and charming. There are lots of pubs and restaurants to visit too. You can explore the shops with traditional piskies and jewels while devouring local Cornish fudge!

Looe is a beautiful and small fishing village that has a gorgeous sandy beach ready and waiting for tourists to enjoy. It has more of a modern vibe and you can fish for crabs until the sun goes down. I love the little bars dotted around Looe and you can watch the world go by on land and at sea.

Padstow

If Cornwall is filled with lovely fishing villages, Padstow is the crown jewel. This little town feels more affluent and is bustling with celebrity restaurants for you to hang out in. It’s a favourite of Gordon Ramsay and it is the perfect place to book a boat trip and visit puffins, seals and basking sharks.

St Michael’s Mount

This sleeping kingdom is only accessible by foot when the tide is out. It is a castle filled with history, tradition and mystery. This amazing landmark is a must visit if you are visiting Cornwall. It’s a full fun family day out with some remarkable spots that are perfect for romantic strolls and, I mean, imagine the photo opportunities!

When you’re done castle visiting, you can walk around Marazion and enjoy ice creams and beach fun!

Mevagissey Harbour

This harbour was the setting to a lot of my family holidays as a child. This sleepy little fishing village is well hidden in Cornwall and much like Polperro, the harbour itself is only accessible on foot. I can smell the scent of fresh fish and chips (lashings of salt and vinegar), I can hear the seagulls singing and the gentle waves lapping up against the cobbled bricks.

This little town is idyllic in all weathers and seasons. In summer you can people watch and take sun soaked fishing trips. In Autumn and Winter, you can snuggle up in a traditional pub and watch the world go by!

Cornwall has so much to offer if you’re looking for a break, whether you are single, in a couple, have small children or a large, extended family like mine!

Travel right now must abide by the localised restrictions so I recommend that you do your research before confirming any bookings. Social distancing and protecting yourself and others should be at the top of your priorities when travelling anywhere in the world right now, so make sure that you do so at all times.
