The Winning Post, Winkfield Review

Right now, my idea of heaven is a getting dressed up and heading out for an intimate dinner with my man. It’s a luxury that has been stopped this year, along with others like holidays and seeing family. But when I get the opportunity to enjoy an evening out and let someone to the washing up, I am there! This week, I was lucky enough to visit The Winning Post pub & restaurant in local Winkfield for a review! So, settle in and get ready for some food envy and advice!

The Winning Post, Winkfield Review

An Introduction To The Winning Post

The Winning Post is the epitome of a quaint English pub. It’s well hidden along Winkfield’s winding roads but can be easily found by locals and those seeking shelter from a hectic day at Legoland. This pub is a hidden gem with a huge fireplace, wrap around bar and plenty of space to dine and drink while keeping to social distancing rules.

I was invited to the Winning Post to try their delicious new menu (3 courses) and try some suggested wines. Our server, Jack, was amazing. All staff wore masks at all times and adhered to distancing rules and one way systems. Jack was passionate about his knowledge of wines and got me to try loads of whites that I’d usually shy away from.

He did such a good job, I’ve gone from fearing white wine to using their wine menu to tailor my weekly shop!

Starters

Camembert starter

This photo makes my mouth water! And, you better believe I ate all of this as my starter!

The Winning Post has lots of choice for their starters but as soon as I saw the word camembert, I knew what I was ordering. This dish is not a sharer (can you believe that!?) and is meant for one human. You certainly get a lot for your money with The Winning Post!

The Winning Post's black pudding scotch egg

Along with my huge camembert, I had to give The Winning Post’s famous black pudding scotch egg a try. I’ve had a few of these in my life but I’ve never had one that is as runny and rich as this one!

It help its shape and was sturdy but once you cut into that goodness, all of the yolk oozed out and it was incredible!

Main Course

The Winning Post's Chicken Schnitzel

Let’s talk pub grub for a second. I worked in a pub on and off for over ten years and I loved it. Our pub was based just outside of Windsor town centre and frequented by sporty folk, local teachers and young families. They were the kind that loves nachos, chips and burgers.

The Winning Post offers this but SO much more. When I saw that a chicken schnitzel was on the menu, I knew I had to have it. When I saw that it came with a fried egg (how yellow is that yolk? Delish!), capers, caeser gem and fries, well I was drooling as soon as it was ordered.

The difference is, The Winning Post do pub grub but at such a high standard. Yes, you’re sitting in a lovely little pub but you feel like you’re fine dining.

The schnitzel was incredible. Juicy, salty, lemony, it was pure food heaven!

My man had to try the fish pie for his main. It’s always a good sign when he doesn’t mutter a word the entire time he’s eating – he definitely enjoyed his pie!

We also shared some parmesan and truffle fries.

Desserts

Baileys hot chocolate

I’m not usually a dessert person and after polishing an entire camembert, a huge schnitzel and wine too, I was fit to burst.

However, when I saw Bailey’s hot chocolate on the dessert menu, I let myself have one more little treat!

Bailey's hot chocolate

The hot chocolate was creamy, thick and luxurious and perfect for a freezing cold Autumn night.

My man had a pear, blackberry frangipane that was tarte and the perfect palette cleanser!

My Verdict

The Winning Post is somewhere you MUST go to if you’re in the area! The decor inside is perfectly English and quaint. The wines are delicious – and there are lots to choose from! The staff is super friendly, would bend over backwards for anyone and super knowledgeable. The food is incredible, you’d think you were in a five start restaurant up the West End! There is a cute little garden area too that would be perfect in the Spring and Summer!

The Winning Post has so much to offer. It’s also great for celeb spotting. Winkfield, Windsor and Ascot are quite affluent places and you’re likely to be rubbing shoulders with local celebrities at the Post!

While I was dining, a very famous sports pundit was enjoying wine and dinner right next to us!

The Winning Post is the perfect backdrop to:
– romantic dinner dates
– sundowners with friends
– post-Legoland wines and chill
– A girly night (with your bubble, of course)
– A cheese and wine night
– Christmas dinner
– New Years Eve
– and more!
