Celebrating International Women’s Day: Honouring Impressive Mothers Throughout History

International Women’s Day is this Friday, 8th March. It’s time to celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of women who inspire me. As a mother, I thought it was important to support fellow females who have inspired me.

I want to shine a spotlight some impressive mothers who have left an indelible mark on history. From trailblazing activists to iconic pop culture figures, these women have inspired generations with their strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to their families and causes.

Rosa Parks

Known as the “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement,” Rosa Parks was a courageous activist. Her act of defiance sparked a wave of protests and helped ignite the civil rights movement in the US. Despite facing backlash and threats to her safety, Rosa Parks remained steadfast. She was committed to get equality and justice. As a mother and a symbol of resistance, her legacy continues to inspire women around the world to stand up for what they believe in.

Princess Diana

As a Windsorian and an avid Royalist, I couldn’t resist. Dubbed the “People’s Princess,” Princess Diana captivated the world. As a devoted mother to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, Diana prioritized their well-being above all else. She used her platform to raise awareness about important issues such as HIV/AIDS, landmines, and mental health. She broke down barriers and challenged the stigma surrounding these topics. Despite facing personal struggles in the public eye, Diana’s legacy as a loving mother and philanthropist continues to shine.

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter

This ain’t no Texas Hold’em. Queen Bey is a global superstar, business mogul, and fierce advocate for women’s empowerment. But beyond her chart-topping hits, Beyoncé is also a devoted mother to her three children, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir. She has spoken candidly about the joys and challenges of motherhood, encouraging women to embrace their strength and resilience. Through her music, activism, and motherhood journey, Beyoncé has inspired millions of women to own their power.

Giovanna Fletcher

Giovanna Fletcher stands as a beacon of inspiration for women and mothers like me, embodying compassion, and authenticity. As an author, presenter, and podcast host, she effortlessly juggles her professional life while prioritizing her role as a mother to her three sons. Giovanna’s openness about her own experiences with motherhood, mental health, and body image resonates deeply with women worldwide. She has fostered a supportive community of empowerment and self-acceptance. Her podcast has been a firm favourite of mine for years even pre-baby. I listen to it weekly and feel so inspired by the people whose stories she shares.
