Destination Wedding & Honeymoon Picks

Spoiler alert: I’ve always wanted a destination wedding and even with COVID putting plenty of spanners in the work, I managed to get my dream in Mauritius. Elopements and destination weddings aren’t for everyone but I wanted to help those in need of some support and inspiration. So, here are my top destination wedding & honeymoon picks!

Mauritius

Obviously, this one is going to be my top choice – I’ve only just come from a trip of a lifetime where I finally married my best friend in the whole world.

Mauritius is everything you want in a tropical island and more. It’s green, lush, and warm. The 12-hour direct flight from London is a breeze – even with COVID restrictions and having to wear a mask the entire time because when you touch down, you’re in paradise!

My top hotel recommendation for your wedding or your honeymoon is the Lux Belle Mare – it’s where we stayed and it’s voted as one of the top luxury hotels in the entire world.

Nothing is too much from them, they will bend over backward to give you the best experience ever.

The Lux is on the beach so you can stroll along gorgeous white sand every day. You have the option to get married on the beach or in other locations around the huge complex.

This hotel is great because it offers packages for big weddings with hundreds of guests as well as two people packages. You’ll feel just as looked after with both packages!

I booked my wedding and honeymoon through Tropical Sky who were excellent at getting all of our needs right!

Barbados

The Caribbean ticks so many boxes for married couples and for those looking to elope. The white sandy beaches, the clear blue oceans, the delicious seafood and the heat, wow!

Barbados is a haven for couples who want to get away from it all. You can stay at incredible resorts or hop into air bnbs all along the sand. I personally would go for a resort holiday to ensure that my every whim was catered for.

Resorts offer you the flexibility to pick and choose extras for your wedding, they have staff who know trivial things that actually really matter like the time of the local sunset, the best spots to get gorgeous photos, which local florists to use, and more.

Barbados has so much to offer because the island just has so much to do. You could wedding plan one day and swim with wild turtles the next. Nights can be spent partying and mornings can be enjoyed at the white sandy beach.

The Maldives

The Maldives is an incredible location for a getaway, let alone a wedding. If you hopped over on the seaplane, this would be the holiday to end all holidays.

This gorgeous island is difficult to get to but once you’re there, you are officially in paradise. Your wedding photos would be a highlight of white sand, crystal clear water and insane backdrops.

If you’re a fan of Billi Shepherd, like me, you’ll know her wedding photos were the ultimate goal. The elegance, the colour palette, the sunset. All of it is a total destination wedding!

Hawaii

Hawaii is one place on Earth I’ve always wanted to go to. I was a huge Lost fan back in the day and seeing the luscious greenery, gorgeous beaches and lovely weather had me sold.

It’s a long old trip on the plane to get there but paradise is so worth it. You can now fly direct from London Heathrow and go directly to your hotel via the beach. Hawaii would be the destination wedding to end all weddings.

You’d need to go for at least 2 weeks to make sure you get enough time to get over the jetlag and the hangover from flying and travelling. You’d have to try to all of the local foods and food trucks, your days pre-wedding could be spent topping up your tan and your first few honeymoon days could be enjoyed climbing up a mountain.

Destination Weddings are a great place to plan your Hawaii wedding – I’d start with them and then get planning the trip of a lifetime!

My wedding and honeymoon were honestly a highlight of my adult life. We did everything we wanted, we were treated like royalty and we started our marriage in true happiness.
