Emma’s Diary Feature: 5 Things That ALL Mums Do
Partnering with Emma’s Diary has helped me reach so many prospective parents, newborn mums and toddler handlers. Working with this platform is one of my proudest writing achievements and I love having the opportunity to tackle controversial subjects. Today I’m talking all about the silly things we all do as mums! It’s a funny one, so settle in for some laughs!

I’ve now been a Mum to my little boy, Jack for 18 months. I seem to have blinked and 18 months of our lives have flown past. It’s no secret that I found the first few weeks tough and the adjustment to be massive. But, it’s as if we got to six weeks, we got into our groove and we’ve been off ever since. I feel like we’re well-practiced in all things Mummy and Jack. We know each other well; I can read him like a book and he can communicate more and more each day – which helps massively!
But there are still..
Things that ALL mums do!
1. Ask to take a shower
Even now that my little one is 18 months old, a shower for me in my house is usually a negotiation.
My husband has been back at work for over a year and we’re in the swing of the working week, working from home and the juggle struggle.
Time for me to shower is usually at the bottom of the pile, even now.
My new world record: a full body shower including double hair wash & shave complete in 7 minutes!
Asking for a shower isn’t a necessity but I always feel like I have to ask. My husband is more than capable of looking after Jack for those seven precious minutes. Yet, I still ask. Every time.

2. Speed eat all meals
Even though Jack is fully weaned and hasn’t yet entered a fussy food phase, I still eat all of my meals like I’m in a race.
We have the majority of our meals together as a family and we all usually eat the same meals.
However, there is no such thing as a relaxed meal for me as the mummy.
Between wolfing down my own meals, I’m wiping chins, picking food up from the floor, reaching out to offer sips of water, and trying to have a conversation about our day.
3. Prioritise the house over rest during naps

What is the invisible load of mothering?
According to Psyched Mommy, “The invisible load of motherhood describes the unnoticed and uncompensated physical, mental, and emotional labor completed behind the scenes to keep our households happy, healthy, and running smoothly.” It involves physical, mental and emotional labour that we take on (often subconsciously)
How would you describe motherhood?
I’ve never known a feeling like it – being a mum is the most incredible, amazing and fulfilling thing I’ve ever done but that doesn’t mean that it’s not also the toughest, hardest and most emotional job I’ve ever had.
