Emma’s Diary Feature: The Anxieties Of Impending Birth & How I’m Coping

For nine long months, I’ve been wondering about what my baby looks like, whether they’ll be more like me or my husband and if how much they move now really is a sign of things to come.

All of a sudden, I’m 39 weeks pregnant and my midwife has started talking to me about sweeps, birth centers and contractions.

I don’t quite know where my pregnancy has gone but the birth of my baby is now clearly on the horizon.

Is It Normal To Feel Anxious About Birth?

This is my first pregnancy and first baby. I am so lucky in that my pregnancy has progressed fairly smoothly and on the whole, I’ve felt pretty chilled and excited about the whole thing.

I won’t lie to you, a few months back, birth felt like a lifetime away. I almost felt cocky that I had months and months left to get prepared and understand the process of giving birth to an actual human.

Well, previously smug Rosie is laughing the other side of her face now, isn’t she!?

All of a sudden, I can’t remember anything I’ve been taught in my NCT classes or by the midwife team. I don’t know when I’d need to call the midwife, what I need to pack for myself or the baby and how to cope when they come home.

For the first time in my pregnancy, I feel anxious about what’s to come.

And, I’m not alone!

I love working with Emma’s Diary – they are my go-to platform for pregnancy updates, baby bits and blog posts that will remind me that it’s not all supposed to be polished and perfect.

My baby has now arrived and I will be doing a follow up on this blog post coming soon!
