I don’t think it is until you find out that you’re pregnant or that you’re going to get your very own human that you realise how important their name really is. I’ve been known as Broody Judy for most of my adult life, I always knew I wanted babies and my husband was always the one I wanted to have one with. It wasn’t so much of an “are we going to” conversation, it was more of a “when shall we get started” in our house.
I am so thrilled to be on my own journey of becoming a first-time mummy and I wanted to share the most popular baby names of 2022 for any mamas out there!

I know that we’re only a few months into 2022 but it’s good food for thought for anyone thinking about naming their little ones.
The Controversial Side Of Naming Your Baby
It doesn’t just start with your baby’s name, it’s also your preference to find out your baby’s gender. We decided from the moment we found out that we wouldn’t be finding out our baby’s gender – I LOVE surprises and have absolutely no care whether my baby is a boy or a girl.
We’ve been lucky in that because we don’t yet know the sex of our baby, we aren’t plied with questions on names.
But I will warn any pregnant or expecting mamas: if you choose to share your baby’s name ahead of their birth, be prepared for opinions, funny looks, and negative stories. Be also prepared for someone to like the sound of your baby’s name so much, they use it for themselves before you get the chance! Yep, people out there really do that!
There will always be someone who knew a Jacob or a Sophie and has an opinion on it that they feel they can share before your baby has arrived. Often, once a baby is here and named, people find it much harder to be rude about their name – at least to your face anyway!
Popular vs Unpopular Names
Your baby’s name is totally up to you and so it should be!
You may prefer family names, a parent’s name, or a nod to your grandparents. Maybe you’re non-traditional and want to go for something cool like Ziggy or Rex.
My preference is to go with non-popular traditional names. We live in quite a small town and because of that, we know a lot of people.
When I was growing up, I didn’t know a single other Rosie until high school. I liked being the only one. I didn’t have to have an initial thrown on the end of my name to identify myself and I was just Rosie.
My little sister had the opposite experience. She was known as Elle I well into her adult years. She doesn’t mind but for me, I liked being the only one.
Of course, it’s easier said than done to name your child a middle-of-the-road, semi-popular name – we don’t have crystal balls so we can’t possibly know that their school year intake wont is full of 4 Maxs or 6 Olivias. But this list from the Baby Center sure helps!

As I write this blog post, I am bouncing on a birthing ball and swigging raspberry tea. My baby has not yet arrived. However, once they do I will be sharing them with you all as soon as I can!
