Guest Post: Three Questions To Ask Before Buying An Eternity Ring

Eternity rings can be a great way to mark a special celebration, particularly a landmark anniversary or important birthday. But with endless options available on the market, how can you start to narrow down your search to find the perfect eternity ring?

Whether you’re buying for yourself or someone else, it can be useful to ask a few questions to help guide you to the perfect band that you or a loved one will be enamored with. To set your search on the right path, answer the following three questions:

Which finger will it be worn on?

Alongside the wedding and engagement rings, an eternity band will take a starring role in any jewelry collection, due to its often conspicuous appearance. But unlike the other two rings, it is down to the individual to choose which finger the eternity band sits on. This is a salient question when buying any ring, but for one as meaningful as this, it is important to take extra care when choosing how it’ll be worn. What’s more, if you or the recipient are planning on stacking the rings, not only will this potentially influence its setting and design, but it may also require a different sizing if it’s to be worn higher up the finger.

You want to be sure you know how the ring will be worn before investing since they can be difficult to resize.

Full band or half band?

Eternity rings typically fall into these two main categories, depending on the diamond coverage around the ring. Whilst traditional eternity bands consist of a full ring of diamonds to symbolise never-ending love and commitment, some couples opt for a half-circle instead (in no way undermining their level of commitment, of course). One of the biggest factors that will inform your choice is budget. With all other elements being equal, full bands are invariably more expensive than half bands, simply due to the inclusion of the additional diamonds. If you’re shopping on a budget, it is certainly worth considering a half-band, which often gives the appearance of being surrounded by diamonds but at a reduced cost.

Which metal is right for you?

As with any other piece of jewelry, you will be given a broad choice of metal types to pick from, so you will always be able to choose an option that best suits the recipient’s style. Do you want to match the colour scheme with the rest of their collection, or are you going to make the eternity ring stand out with a different metal type? The most common metals found in eternity rings are gold and platinum, and these classic looks remain a popular choice for many couples. However, if you’re looking to break the mold and be a little unconventional, why not opt for a rose gold finish on your band? This trendy colour is very versatile and can work with both gold and silver jewelry collections, and it’s becoming an increasingly popular choice amongst modern brides.
