Emma’s Diary Feature: The Third Trimester: What They Don’t Tell You
My Pregnancy Journey So Far
When my pregnancy became common knowledge at around 14 weeks, I was told countless times that it would drag, time would halt to a standstill and I’d be fed up in no time.
I can honestly say, I have never felt like this. I’m right at the end of my third trimester and the days still feel like they’re flying, every kick feels just as special as the first and even the midwife feels like we’ve only just met.
My third trimester arrived before I was ready to understand just how crazy it gets. In fact, my due date is edging closer and I’m wondering what I’ll feel like when the baby arrives!

Pregnancy is lovely, it’s a rollercoaster and it is a wild ride. Buckle yourself in, pull the roll bar down and warn everyone around you that they are in for a bumpy ride. While I’ve been fortunate to enjoy so much of my pregnancy, I’d be lying if I said I’d loved every single second and had no worries, issues, aches or pains.
And with the arrival of the third trimester, it all gets real overnight!
The Third Trimester
When you dive into your third trimester at 28 weeks pregnant, it can feel like the end goal is in sight. It can also feel quite daunting.
The human you’ve been carrying around inside you WILL certainly be making its grand entrance and the days are now numbered.
But, you’ve still got a substantial chunk of time to get through before you see their beautiful little face.
In that time, three months give or take a week or two, your baby will continue to grow at a rate of knots, your bones will move, expand and hurt you every single day and your tolerance for people will hit an all time low.
My Third Trimester Experience
I’ve been healthy and fit throughout my pregnancy, I’ve enjoyed going for walks, indulging in the odd treat, drinking plenty of water and drinking lots of raspberry leaf tea.
When my body joined the third trimester club I was hit with the realisation that it was so much like the first trimester – except everyone knows and is beyond annoying.
The lightheadedness and feelings of nausea came back with a vengeance. My energy levels plummeted – those lovely, calm daily walks? They became a daily chore. Just having enough energy to put my own shoes on would have me putting it off each day.
My once sprightly energy levels saw me contemplating daily showering: do I smell that bad? I couldn’t be bothered to get undressed, get all wet, wash my hair only to have to do it all in reverse and then wash my hair on the other side.

This is my fourth feature on the Emma’s Diary platform – a platform I 100% recommend if you’re pregnant or a new parent. Their guides, tips and weekly updates have been so valuable to me on my pregnancy journey and their app is my go-to – even more so now that my baby has arrived!
