How I got to 500k unique viewers on Pinterest in 6 weeks
Pinterest, once upon a time, seemed like a treasure trove of quotes, images and mysterious blog views and growth. I wont lie to you, in my four years of blogging, I feel that I am only now just cracking the secret to gaining growth through Pinterest. If you’ve visited LoveRosiee before, you’ll know that I use social media a lot and my blog has gone from strength to strength – now it’s time for me to share my Pinterest knowledge with you all!
The basics
Pinterest isn’t really all that hard to get your head around, once you understand its purpose and what it can bring to you.
Over the last six weeks or so I have grown my Pinterest by over 17,000% – I’m not even sure that’s a real number but those metrics do not lie! I have grown my monthly users from a small but sweet 330 to over 500k!
Seriously!
To do this, I had to start with the basics too!
Firstly, what do you like to see on Pinterest? Is it blog inspiration, flatlay photography, sandy beaches, holidays, homeware, cocktails or all of that and more?
Whatever it is you use Pinterest for, contribute towards it!
At the start (a long time ago also known as last month) I was using Pinterest a lot for Instagram story templates and inspiration. I was pinning, saving and then using the templates on my own stories. So I thought it would be useful to share the ones I’ve come across and tag the owners.
Most of you will know that I recently renovated my house and I have a whole board dedicated to house ideas, bedroom goals, prints and bathroom loves.
So, again, I started to style my photography in order to share the progression on Pinterest.

Time frames
As a blogger you should be acutely aware of time frames for you.
For example:
the best time to put a snap on your Instagram feed and promote it
when to set a blog post live
when the best blogger sharing threads are booming
when to contact a brand
With Pinterest, it is a time game.
Using my blog analytics, I knew that a portion of my traffic was coming from across the pond (hello you lovely Americans!) and so I switched around with my Pinterest posting times. Instead of posting sporadically throughout the day, I posted at exactly the same time everyday with bursts of content!

Trending
To give me a good idea as to what people searched and what was popular, I used to the “trending” button on Pinterest.
When adding things to my Pinterest feed, I would use these trending hashtags to give my posts as much of a boost as possible!
You can also do it by typing your ideal tags into the search bar and seeing what else appears below it to help broaden your searches – this will help you reach a wider audience!
Hashtags
As with Instagram, hashtags can be the difference between being seen and going viral! No joke!
The best part of Pinterest is that a lot of it is machine learning and they want to help you out every step of the way! For every hashtag you enter into your pin, Pinterest will suggest ideas for you!
I use somewhere between fifteen and thirty hashtags per post. Some posts perform amazingly, some less so – I’m still learning!

Quality Images
This one kind of goes without saying but make sure that every image you pin, share, save etc. is of good quality. The goal with Pinterest is firstly:
- Get your pin seen
- Get people to your blog (link should be added to every snap)
- Get your pin shared
- and shared
- and shared
To make this happen, your snaps must be of good quality!
Add your blog link
This sounds like a no brainer again but make sure you add your relevant blog or social media link to your pins. Even if your pin doesn’t work directly with the pin, give your new audience the opportunity to find your blog, read and enjoy what else you have to offer!
My blog link – be it directly to my home page or to relevant new blog posts, is always tagged on to any pin. Those views come directly through to my analytics and give me a good idea on how well they have performed as well as things like bounce rate and relevancy.
Engage
Like with any social media channel, the key is to engage. Don’t just use and abuse Pinterest for quick snaps, quotes and home inspo (like I was for many years).
Leave comments, visit the sites to see what else you can find, leave comments and pin, pin, pin!
Add good pins to your own boards, repurpose content specifically for Pinterest and let it be known to fellow bloggers and your readership that you are active on this elusive but amazing social media channel.
I recently did a blogger shoutout for Pinterest follows (the goal was to follow some amazing UK & US bloggers, not for my own gain) and from this and the engagement that I put in (and continue to do) I have boosted my own followers – not to mention my impressions, view, blog metrics and more!
You can follow me on Pinterest here!
Come and join this incredible journey – my goal is to boost the number again in the next 6 weeks so stay tuned to see how that goes!
