SJ Forbes Review

Hair care is something very close to my heart, I genuinely think that my best feature is my hair! I love my naturally black hair to be as long and luscious as possible and it’s something I’m known for. Throughout lockdown, my hair thrived – the only part of me that did really. I took good care of it, I used less heat and depended on plaits and braids for work, I taught myself how to curl my hair with straighteners and I’ve never looked back. But lockdown still did me dirty (and I know I’m not the only one!) so when SJ Forbes reached out to me and asked if I’d like to try one of their hair treatments for some post-lockdown pampering, I had to give it a go. Here is my full SJ Forbes review!

Who is SJ Forbes?

SJ Forbes is a beautiful hairdressing salon nestled next to the arches of Windsor, known by locals as the best hair dressers in the town! They set up shop in Windsor a few years ago and have a salon locally in Egham too.

As a Windsor local, I know a lot about SJ Forbes as a brand and love to hear how much the founders are in the salon, actively working with clients and customers. Many friends of mine wont go out until they’ve had their big bouncy blow dry from SJ Forbes beforehand!

The salon itself is cosy but has everything you could ever need! They have taken post-lockdown measures seriously and have installed stylish perspex walls to section off everyone and keep them safe. These safety measures actually work really well in-store, they fit the colour scheme and made me feel like my conversation wasn’t be being listened by the whole of Windsor. I wouldn’t mind them staying once everything goes back to normal!

They’ve been open for a while since lockdown regulations were eased and the salon was bustling with chatter and excitement. All hairdressers and staff wore full visors and masks on their face – making our conversations hilariously loud but I felt safe the entire time I was in their care!

My Treatments

For the purpose of this blog post, I was gifted a hair cut, treatment and blow dry. I cannot tell you how excited I was to get in the chair and just have someone else wash my hair instead of me!

My hair is quite long and I like to style it myself but I’m always really careful about heat defence, pulling and general hair care.

I knew that I wanted to freshen up my look by adding some layers and tidying up the length – it had got to the horrible stage of looking straggley and messy at the ends. I used SJ Forbes’ excellent Instagram page to inspire my goals for the day and my treatment sorted itself out from there!

I wanted my hair to look:
– healthy
– shiny
– luscious
– bouncy

Goldwell Kersailk Hair Treatment

To achieve this look on my hair, I needed to have a Goldwell Kerasilk Ultra Volume hair treatment.

SJ Forbes offer only the best at their salons and they offer a wide range of treatments, but Goldwell Kerasilk was the way to go for my locks!

I was given the Ultra Volume treatment to strengthen my fine hair and give it the volume I wanted.

This little formula was added to my hair as it was being washed and then added in tiny amounts to my hair as it was drying.

The goal was to have my hair bounce and curl – this was the shampoo used to make sure that it would happen. It smelt lovely and foamed up beautifully in my hair.

Also, how nice is it when someone else washes your hair and massages your head? Heaven!

So, you can see that quite a lot of the straggly length was taken off and layers have been added to increase the chance of a good bounce. My hair looks so healthy and feels much thicker and beautiful!

Once my hair was washed and towel dried, Hayley at SJ Forbes gave me a full bouncy blow dry to encourage my roots to bounce and keep their form. The blow dry was fabulous, Hayley really took care with my hair and she really is a master at what she does!

Then, she added some loose curls to my blow dried hair to give it that glam look. The curls were done with a slim straightener (the same ones I use myself at home) and she told me the best way to make a bouncy curl look glam is to straighten out the ends of your hair.

I am absolutely chuffed with the end result! My hair looks so healthy, the layers look gorgeous even on straightened hair and the Goldwell Kerasilk treatment feels as if it has lasted a few washes in. My hair is much easier to handle, holds its shine and I’ve only had compliments since!

I could not recommend SJ Forbes enough, I felt safe the entire time I was in store and the atmosphere was buzzing! It was such a treat to be pampered and feel glam for a few hours and it did a lot for my brain! If you’re feeling a bit down about another potential pending lockdown, more restrictions and the world being a bit lost right now, I would 100% recommend booking yourself into SJ Forbes for some much needed and much deserved pamper time!
