3 Easy Ways To Destress Online This New Year
I think we can all agree that 2021 was a tough year – and in fact, 2020 was a tough year too. Everything in the news, the constant doom scrolling, and the never-ending cycle of COVID made lots of us want to shut the laptop forever. My New Year’s Resolution for 2022 is to avoid all of that without feeling like I need to throw my phone out the window and abandon my laptop while in the middle of a workday. We are so connected to the world and it’s a blessing and a curse. Today’s blog post is all about finding 3 easy ways to destress while online in 2022.

1. Get Back In Touch With Your Gamer Side
If you’re like me, you won’t have a lot of time away from your devices. If I’m not working with my clients, I’m using my phone to blog and network, it’s never-ending. But this lack of downtime can mean that I am seeing far too much of the stuff that stresses me out.
One fun way for me to switch out of that is to jump out of my work tabs and play a quick game with Plays.
Plays make it easy for you to dive into fun desktop games with zero waiting time, no downloads, and pure quick delight. They have thousands of different games to choose from so you’re sure to find something for a quick five minute bit of distraction. There are also lots of longer games with fun different levels that will keep you distracted from the real world.

I love Candy Girl Adventure, it’s a perfect mix of stealing jewels and running around like a headless chicken – great for taking my mind off of the news for at least six minutes!
Plays’ Plumber Game is addictive because I am rubbish at it and I can’t seem to get any better! I use it to take out my frustrations when I’ve heard about new waves or hospital admissions and it really destresses me.

2. Plug Into A Podcast or Audio Book
Being online and being plugged in online are two different things. I am so fortunate in my job in that I am not only encouraged to switch off while at work and do some learning/have some personal development time but I’m actually targeted on it each week.
When the going gets tough, I like to turn my screen onto sleep, put my headphones in, and plug into a good podcast or audiobook. Right now, I’m listening to one about hynobirthing and being calm throughout pregnancy. Even just five minutes of closing my eyes and listening can help me fully destress and come back to work feeling like a new woman.
You don’t have to listen to anything profound or meditative, a comedy podcast like My Dad Wrote A Porno will do the trick. Anything to help you really focus your mind on anything but the news!

3. Do A Quick Yoga Session From Your Seat
I’m at my desk sometimes 13 hours a day and on these days, I barely notice how little I stand up, stretch and take a break. Not every day is like this and I do try to regularly take breaks, go for walks around the block and get away from my laptop but different times during the month determine my ability to do that.
A quick way that I destress on a particularly busy day is to do some in-my-seat yoga practice. I find a five minute yoga session on YouTube and don’t even have to get up to feel the stretches in the back of my neck, shoulders, arms, and legs.
It does me the world of good, my muscles get some flexing, there is more oxygen flowing through me and I don’t feel guilty for having not moved when in the middle of a really big project.

Let’s make 2022 a little more stress free if we can. We’ll all be back at our desks again in no time but remember to balance your work life with your own self care. You’ve only got one self, so take good care of it!
