5 Habits You Need In Your Skincare Routine
Skincare doesn’t come just come from great products, endless buckets of money and good genes. While these will have an impact on your skincare and how good it is, there are a few habits that you will need to ensure that your skincare is a healthy as possible! Here are 5 habits you need in your skincare routine!

1. Drink Lots Of Water
Fluids and water in skincare is key! Flushing your body with water is not only a basic for good skincare, it’s also great for your general health and well-being.
Hydration, or lack thereof, is one of the easiest ways to see if your skin is happy or in need of some help. It is scientifically proven that keeping your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water each day will make your skin glow, feel more plump and retain and hold onto the products that you’re applying to it!
I tend to drink around 6 pints of water a day, depending on how busy my schedule is. The amount you should drink will vary and everybody is different. However, if I have a few days of not drinking enough water, my skin shows it straight away.
I have combination skin so it is dry in some places and oily in others – but one thing that is consistent is the breakouts, redness and blemishes that appear on my skin within days of neglecting my water intake.
2. Use SPF every single day!
Yep, that’s right. Even in the winter months you should try to wear a form of SPF on your skin, face and neck every single day. The sun, while amazing, can be harmful to the skin. Skin damage caused by the sun can be one of the earliest signs of ageing.
While winters in the UK can seem long and the periods without sunshine can feel long, the strong power of the sun can still penetrate the greyest day!
A good SPF can be found in many brilliant drug store foundations, daily face creams, CC/BB creams and more. If you’re more of a powder girl, just make sure you’re applying a form of sun protection to your skin before leaving the house!
Top Tip!
Always try to apply a form of sun cream to the tops of your hands too – your hands have delicate skin that is thin and can burn easily.

3. Have a night-time skincare routine
So, I know that everyone’s evenings are completely different to mine. On a normal weeknight, this is what mine usually looks like:
– post-run shower to wash off my day
– during shower scrub using either a face scrub or a face-scrubbing tool like my PMD machine
– post-shower cleanse and cream – usually using products from Antipodes and/or ARK skincare
– glaze my skin like a Krispy Kreme donut
– chill for the evening and top up any moisturiser before bed if my face feels taught
My evenings can be super chilled and my skincare routine can take anything from ten minutes to an hour, depending on my plans. I know not everyone’s will be like this, so I’ve put together some skincare tips and tricks to help you make the most of the products you’ve got and the time you have!
4. Moisturise!
It sounds so simple, I know but moisturising has really saved my skin. While I try to drink as much water as possible, sometimes the thing that takes my skin to a good day and week is a good moisturiser!

Applying moisturiser to the skin on your face, neck and decolletage is not just for the aesthetic of your face. It is a key element to adding moisture and keeping it in!
Moisturiser acts as a replenishment to all that gets lost throughout the day and it is important to do after exfoliating and cleansing your skin. You may not exfoliate and/or scrub your skin every single day but the nutrients will be lost from your skin every single day. Applying a good quality, thick moisturiser can counteract this and, acting with the amount of fluid that you consume, will help your skincare glow.
If you want to achieve healthy skin that is soft, clear and plump-looking, you need to be moisturising!
5. Rest and sleep well
When you are well-rested, your body shows it. When you are exhausted and absolutely spent, your body and your skin will mirror this.
I know that when I am exhausted, mentally and physically, my skin breaks out, it looks patchy and my eyes look red and sore.
Even when I sleep a lot, my eyes tend to look red and puffy but it’s hide-able with good make up and a genuine smile on my face!
A key habit to adopt for a good skincare routine is getting enough rest – for your mind, body and your soul! If you have a job different to mine: stressful but from an office chair, in front of a screen a lot of the day, your exhaustion levels may be different. When I had a different job where I was on my feet all day, I was knackered!
My body is very good at giving me signs that I need to take it easy and I am really fortunate enough to be able to have slower days. My Sundays are usually dedicated to blogging and general but if I am tired, I will treat myself to a day on the sofa binge-watching TV.
Getting enough rest is so important, so take some you-time, your skin will thank you!

Will you adopt some of my skincare habits to make your skin glow?
