Hello, Autumn you beautiful palette of ever-changing colours, transitions and reflections. October has arrived in a flurry of rain, dark evenings and excitement for Halloween. This time of year always makes me excited for a new start, setting new goals and enjoying the idyllic view out of my window – even if the view is one of rain and clouds. Autumn is a great time to change up your social life and fun days out. This time of year usually has me booking my diary up with girly dates, afternoon tea adventures that see us curled up on a luxurious sofa and watching the world go by and long walks in the cold weather. Here are my Autumn afternoon tea picks…
If you’re unsure what afternoon tea is, here is your ultimate definition. If you’ve never been to one, you’re seriously missing out. Don’t worry though, my top picks will have you making reservations before the day is out!
Van Gough Afternoon Tea at Hotel Cafe Royal
A themed afternoon tea, for me, is a must! Lots of different hotels, restaurants and bars have their own spin on how to give you the best experience but Hotel Cafe Royal smash it with their Van Gough theme. This one is fully immersive, so get ready to embrace the life and art of one of the most iconic artists in the world. The food is not your bog-standard scones, sandwiches and cake, it’s a take on his best work. You’ll enjoy Starry Night tea that transforms with clever flavoured drops. The food is out of this world – think: cream fraiche paintbrush to cleanse your palette, amuse bouche mini sandwiches and so much more.
It’s A Little Bit Mad, The Lanesborough
Inspired by Disney’s latest Cruella reboot film, this afternoon is a theme and a vibe. The aesthetic is everything – think traditional afternoon tea but with a spotted twist. The patisserie selection is a celebration of art, rebellion and a hint of Disney. They twist on the best flavours for the full effect: a gold inside out lemon cheesecake. I’m salivating just thinking about it.
Peter Pan Afternoon Tea, Aqua Shard
So, this Autumn, you don’t have to go down a full afternoon tea theme. But imagine how fun this one would be? You and your girls could pile onto the train, hit the tube and adventure through London before enjoying a full grown up take on your old childhood classics.
There are Tinker Bell inspired cookies, crocodile jellies and more all served on a pirate ship tea stand. It is epic. Upgrade with prosecco or champagne and laugh the afternoon away.
OXO Tower Restaurant’s Vegan Afternoon Tea
Have you got a big anniversary coming up? Do you want to seriously treat yourself this Autumn – because, hey, why not!? If this sounds like you, you need to book afternoon tea at the OXO Tower Restaurant!
This one has it all for vegans. You can choose from a huge range of dishes that are both delicious and completely vegan. This place is an institution for London and the location is almost as cool as the amazing food on offer. This is a seriously memorable Autumn afternoon tea treat.
Momo
If you want to put a real twist on a British classic, you need to book yourself into Momo. This one is unique in that it is traditional but with a twist on North African dining and practices. The food looks incredible. It’s a mix, a twist and a fusion. You can taste prickly pear jam, Middle Eastern milk puddings, strawberry rosewater and much more.
A real taste sensation, you’ll journey through different places and see how tradition can meet fusion for a match made in heaven.
Upgrade to enjoy champagne and the incredible atmosphere – that’s my top piece of advice!
Try something different this Autumn and enjoy all the fun afternoon tea offerings in London.
I know I will!
