Guest Post – Lab Grown vs Earth Grown Infinity Diamond Jewellery

I’m currently obsessed with Infinity Diamond Jewellery’s range of lab-diamond engagement rings – they offer such an amazing choice of dreamy rings; from simple contemporary styles, to pretty vintage inspired designs. And because they’re custom made, you select a lab-grown diamond in your perfect size, colour and clarity and the metal of your choice. I also love the price, being anywhere from 30-70% lower than traditional mined diamond, so you can get that big rock!

Becky Wright, Designer at Infinity Diamond Jewellery explains, “I always hear the same two questions, ‘What’s the difference between lab-grown and earth-grown diamonds?’ or, ‘Are lab-grown real diamonds?’
“Our lab-grown diamonds are graded using the same standards that are used for mined diamonds. They are graded based on the diamond’s four Cs — colour, cut, clarity, and carat.”

“Visually, lab-grown diamonds and mined diamonds are identical. That being said, lab-grown diamonds that are certified by a large lab will have a laser inscription on the girdle of the stone. The laser inscription will indicate “Lab-Grown,” along with the diamond’s certification
number.”

This Emerald Cut Moissanite Engagement Ring is a clear & stunning example of what I’m talking about – probably my favourite of their range.

From what I’ve read over the years, Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds, and they are a 10 on something called ‘the Mohs hardness scale’. The only difference is where they come from – a lab!

I think the most surprising part is that even to, they look completely indistinguishable (unless you’re testing using a highly specialised machine).

The 3.50ct Round Cut Moissanite Engagement Ring, one of Becky’s best-selling designs (and it’s clear to see why!)

Speaking to someone like Becky who works in the industry and spends all her days designing these exact rings, made me realise: that purchasing a lab-grown diamond over a mined diamond doesn’t compromise anything at all.

In fact, with a lab-grown diamond, you get a beautiful, ethically sourced stone for a fraction of the price of a mined diamond.

In my eyes, it’s a win-win.

This Vintage Oval Cut Moissanite Halo Engagement Ring rests ever so delicately on the finger, and is another that stood out to me.

People Also Ask…

Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?

A Lab Grown Diamond is a real diamond that is made by scientists who recreate the same circumstances used by nature, only this process takes a few months instead of millions of years. 💍 Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real? Yes. A Lab Grown Diamond has the same chemical make up as ‘Natural’ Diamonds.

Is it good to buy lab-grown diamonds?

Contrary to what you might assume, lab-grown does not mean fake. A lab-grown diamond is essentially the same thing as a natural diamond. So, buying a lab-grown diamond is preferable to purchasing a synthetic option, such as a cubic zirconia.

Are Tiffany diamonds lab-grown?

Natural diamonds often contain a small amount of nitrogen or other impurities, while lab-grown diamonds do not. Tiffany diamonds are responsibly sourced from known mines and suppliers, and the majority of our rough stones come from Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Canada.
