How To Start A Blog

Who doesn’t love a blogger?

Actually, scratch that! Who doesn’t know a blogger? Back in 2015 when I started blogging, I physically knew only one person who had a blog and talking about building my own brand and blog got me some funny looks and massive eye rolls. Fast forward 2 years and blogging is even more mainstream than I could ever have imagined! It is an amazing thing to do and a brilliant community to join and an amazing hobby to have so I thought I would use some of the knowledge I have learnt to help others create their own blogs!

Back in 2015, this is how LoveRosiee started. A side project, an escape from a miserable job and rocky foundations of adulthood. Had I known that starting my blog could be so easy and such a brilliant chance to change my life I’d have done it much sooner!

How To Start A Blog

Step 1:

Think about what you want to blog about. Why are you wanting to start a blog? Is it for good reasons and are you willing to put in the real graft? You’ll  soon find out that blogging takes a lot of hard work and it’s not a stream of events and free gifts!

Think of a unique blog name and design idea that would fit with you NOW – not where you aspire to be but you who are! That is the most important part of the start of your blog, your brand is you so be you!

It took me weeks to find the perfect blog name and I was lucky enough to get almost the perfect Domain name.

So, step 1, in a nutshell is, get yourself over to site like 1and1, GoDaddy etc. and test out your idea of a Domain Names.

It couldn’t be easier to simply type in your ideas and see if a) they’re available and b) they fit with you!

Step 2:

With sites like 1and1 you receive a platform on which your blog is based. I LOVE WordPress but some people end up with Blogger and all sorts.

The platform you choose can be changed but this can result in loss of your work/addresses and blog stats. There are two options but if you choose your own domain name, WordPress usually takes you straight to Hosted.

Hosted simply means your blog will end with .com – which is what my blog is!

Step 3:

Once your Domain name has come through you’ll get an option on your plan. You’ll be taken through to a page with blog templates that are free and some that you have to pay for to use that range in prices. Once you’re a bit more established you can pay to completely design your own one like I did in my December 2015 rebrand!

Step 4:

Set up your contact. With certain hosts you’ll be able to use up to 5 email addresses. I personally think this is such an easy step into looking professional from the word go. I think sending your own blog-linked email address to a PR etc. looks so much better!

I have loved the journey my blog has already taken me on. I truly believe that there is room in the blogging world for more to join and I really hope this post has been helpful!
