UK Travel Bucket List: Guernsey

I’ve now been stuck on this little island for over two years thanks to COVID and the lockdowns. I know that I’m not alone but I also know that, like me, you’re ready to get back out there as safely as possible. Being locked down made me re-evaluate what is on my doorstep. OK, so transatlantic flights and far-flung jaunts might be off the cards for, well, the foreseeable future, but the UK is an incredible place to live and travel. Today’s blog post is all about my UK travel bucket list – starting with one little island in particular: Guernsey!

Things To Do In Guernsey

Beach Days

As you know, I live in beautiful, leafy Windsor. My home town has a lot to offer but it has a serious lack of beaches. I am such a beach bum and I am seriously craving some vitamin sea!

Guernsey has some of the most gorgeous beach spots around. The little island gets more hours of sunlight each year than the mainland so beach days can last forever!

The top beaches that I’d like to visit are:

• Grande Rocques Beach – perfect for sundowners and sun bathing in the summer
• Shell Beach – a tourist spot but excellent for paddling and people watching
• Bordeaux Harbour – views for days and quaint little places to shop and devour locally made ice cream
• Vazon Bay – ideal little spot for splashing around in the surf and enjoying the long, hot days!

Windsor has its very own castle but that doesn’t mean I don’t like exploring the regal homes of others when I pop away on staycations. Guernsey has some really cool landmarks like Castle Cornet and Fort Hammet.

I am all for the foodie trips and going local on my visits for my travel bucket list and Les Caches Farm ticks lots of those boxes. A day spent petting animals, sipping on local teas, and eating as much afternoon tea as I can manage? Yes, please!

Guernsey even has an old working lighthouse for those sea lovers amongst us. I’ve never been up a lighthouse but I’d love to traipse up those never-ending, winding stairs to get to the top of that big lightbulb. I bet that there is just no view of the island like the one at the top of the lighthouse!

Food

When I’m by the sea, I love to try all of the fresh seafood possible. There’s nothing quite like fresh seafood, getting dressed up for dinner, and wandering down to the harbour for a dinner. I love being told, “this was caught today just over there”.

If you’re a foodie, like me, you’ll love the fresh food that Guernsey has to offer!

The Hook is a lovely place to experience a new wave of seafood with a little bit of Japanese influence. You’d never expect this little spot to be on the island but it is perfect for some holiday flair!

La Reunion has amazing outside seating and the desserts are to die for. I’m only really a pudding girl on holiday but when in Rome, eh?!

La Nautique is a little bit of posh for your staycation. Perfect for date night if you’re with someone special or if you’re meeting a nice local from a Guernsey dating site. You can get to know each other better as you explore the food in front of you. Fresh seafood goes perfectly with an ice-cold glass of white wine, so why not indulge fully on your date.

Fat Rascal is the ultimate pig-out spot for any time of day or night. If you fancy some home comforts or a good feeding before a long day of water sports, you need to hit this one! You could meet someone from this Guernsey dating site and put them through their foodie paces. You could even share a delicious mountain of pudding for afters!

Exploring

Guernsey offers the perfect niches and alcoves for you to explore. Their quaint town and market is a hustle and bustle of local life, local foods, and people watching. You could spend hours licking ice cream, sipping coffee, and watching people as they holiday around you.

St Peter Port offers incredible views and fun ways to spend the day. If you like going for long walks on holiday and refreshing yourself with a pint of local beer, you’ll want to explore this gem.

If you time your adventure right, you’ll be able to adventure around the incredible Bluebell Woods. As a blogger, I am ALL for this aesthetic and can only imagine the content I’d be able to get here on a long sunny day. Bluebells are my favourite flower and when I go, I plan to leave nothing but footsteps and take nothing but photos and memories.

When I went to Nashville a few years ago, I took a tour of the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame. It was a blast. While Guernsey’s offering isn’t quite as rock and roll, their St. James Concert Hall makes for a good afternoon adventure. You can explore the historical hall while hearing all about the artists who’ve been through the doors.

Then, of course, you can wash it all done with a pint of beer or cider and a walk along the beach!
