AD: EFT & How It’s Helped Me

AD – this is a sponsored post but all thoughts are my own

Recently, I’ve been pushed in new directions and one of those was towards the edge of my comfort zone. I’m notoriously terrible at accepting help, talking about what’s bothering me and diving into my feelings. The world has been upside down, we’re all in the same boat, so why would I need any special attention? Sometimes, the edge of your comfort zone is where you find the answers. This week, I’ve been working with Andrea on her EFT training and here’s what I have to say about it…

What is EFT?

EFT, or emotional freedom technique, is an alternative technique to physical and emotional distress. It is also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure. There are a few points on your body to tap such as your crown, your third eye, and your heart space.

EFT and the use of tapping are about physically rebalancing your energy system and treating pain. It can help to redistribute the energy in your body by removing the negative energy in place of positive energy.

Amazingly, EFT has been used to treat people with anxiety and people with PTSD.

My Experience With EFT

When the lovely Andrea from Dreahunt got in touch with me earlier this month, I wanted to learn more about this alternative therapy. I’d seen some of my favourite bloggers rave about their time with her and I wanted to know more about it all for myself.

I’m a complete novice to any kind of therapy or life coaching but I thought, after this year, I could do with just talking about what was going on in my mind!

My Session With Andrea

Andrea is fascinating. She is American currently in Europe and doing her sessions via zoom. She has traveled the world and honed her skills as a go-to for EFT.

Andrea is open, personable, and easy to get along with. Even someone like me who feels uncomfortable opening up and a bit awkward, found myself warming to her immediately. She really knows her stuff and her calm demeanor will help you feel at home.

Her goal is to help you reach your life goals. Just “enough” is not enough – it shouldn’t be enough for us. Life should be fulfilled, your goals should be strived for and you should embrace every challenge and triumph.

Her blog is a treasure trove of amazing resources and reading. Here are my top posts that I recommend you read:

More About My Experience With Andrea & Tapping

For this blog post, Andrea offered me an hour-long session with her, one on one.

If I’m being honest, I was a little daunted when I decided to jump on. However, just over an hour later, I felt amazing.

Our call was super informal, we started by chatting about my life, how the past year has been for me, and any stressors that I may be experiencing. We dived straight into what my life looks like and any anxieties – and she knew exactly where to go from there.

We covered my stresses with work and my anxieties around growing, progressing, and contributing in every way possible.

Did It Work For Me?

We had about four rounds of tapping where Andrea had me repeat sentences about my feelings – first negative and then positive. There were “what if” questions and reflections on why I feel certain things, what led me to that path, and if I’ve ever tried looking at things differently.

I was walked through the chanting, the repeating, and the tapping.

At first, the tapping felt like a release – a release of pressure on my body that was so needed. Often, I find it hard to sit still when I’m feeling worried. The tapping got me to focus on chanting affirmations and centering my body.

After a while, the tapping moves became second nature, and my brain starting to pop with ideas, reflections, and inspirations. I was completely focused and channeling everything Andrea was saying. I was in tune, for once, with my brain and my anxieties.

The tapping was a revelation for me, I had no clue how helpful it would be to focus my brain. The repetition of words like “I truly love and respect myself” along with positive affirmations about myself was great.

I was finally talking to myself, my brain, and my body the way I should.

The connection I felt to myself and Andrea was undeniable.
