How To Get That Festive Feeling

Ho Ho Ho! And a Merry … ok not feelin’ it? Not at all? You’re not the only one! I am hearing lots of Debbie Downers when it comes to the C Word – and not just in the Blogosphere! People are sick of Christmas starting so early – as early as October this year! For some, it’s a reminder of spending money and the lack there of it. For others it highlights a loss in their lives – everyday the loss is felt but Christmas seems to magnify that feeling of missing someone. So, with all of this in mind I have taken it upon myself to bring some Christmas cheer into your lives without ramming it down your throat. If you’re seriously Hum-Bugging right now, maybe best to come back in a week or two! Enjoy my How To Get That Festive Feeling!

First thing’s first, you’ve got to get some Christmas food in your oven cooking to fill your house with that amazing smell of Christmas. Everyone’s got a Christmas scent, mine is the smell of freshly baked sausage rolls and Christmas cake! As soon as I’m ready to start feeling Christmasy I buy fresh puffed pastry and sausage meat and get baking away. If you know me at all, you’ll know I am a terrible baker! I cannot bake at all – give me a roast dinner or a risotto and I’m your girl but baking is not for me. Luckily making sausage roll isn’t all that tricky so even I can manage it successfully!

This second one is a touch unconventional but one I know you’ll love! A brilliant way to get yourself in the Christmas Spirit is to treat yourself to an early Christmas present. Yep. Treat yourself, go on! Find something you’d and splurge – you deserve it!

There’s nothing better, in my opinion, than compiling your Christmas list! I send hours pouring over mine (I’m a list person) and adding little things I’d love – whether that be a realistic or a high end and ridiculous want!

It’s not too tricky to find something you’d like so go for it! You’ve had a good year – treat yourself nice and early and be ready for Santa to bring you more!

Another way of getting into the Christmas spirit is by making lists for the people you love and start buying things you know they’d love! While money can be tight this time of year it’s always a nice idea to put some personal touches into your gifting so why not get crafty and make something. I am a sucker for a photo album or something personal like that – there’s nothing better than effort. We can have too many Ted Baker bath smellies!

I love compiling lists for my gorgeous boy and lovely sisters and thinking about their faces when they open their lovely gifts I’ve put so much love and effort into! I also love wrapping their gifts – I think I might be the only person on that one though!

Last thing you can do to get yourself into a premature Christmas mood is to get yourself a steaming hot chocolate, get all snuggly in your favourite fluffy pjs, out a Christmas film on and some Christmas tunes and ease yourself into it!

There are so many amazing Christmas films out there that will make the Christmas warmth rise up inside you! Pick up one from your childhood, invite your sister over and crack open a box of pringles!

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas and I hope my post has helped you ease yourself into the Christmas spirit!
