Skincare Chat: Is Toner Out?
It’s time to get chatting about skincare and the products we use. You know that I am a skincare lover, it’s something I am passionate about. But the biggest one that has crept up on me in the last week or so is this: is toner out? Let’s explore it more…

Where Has This Come From?
I recently took part in a few virtual skincare events. My favourites were with Urtekram and ARK skincare.
While I was enjoying the events, a throw-away comment was made – in both events! The comment was something along the lines of “toner is so unfashionable these days” and “toner is no longer in vogue”.
I was shocked.
As a skincare blogger, toner is in my daily routine. I’ve researched for the right one for my skin. I’ve shared my opinion on brands and given advice on what I think you guys should buy.
And now, it’s no longer needed?

So, What Does This Mean?
Like I do with everything on my blog, I’ve spent hours researching what this could mean. And, I’ve found out some really interesting facts and takes on toners in 2021.
The first thing I found out was that toners aren’t actually necessary for good skincare.
Toners have been fashionable because they’ve been multipurposed to become part of your make up removal process. I’ve got plenty of micellar waters that double up as toners. There are brands out there that promise the two-in-one bonus of both products.
Toners were originally created by dermatologists to help remove soap, pollution and dirt from your skin. They are stronger than cleansers at removing any left over sticky residue.
Other toners were created to help oily skin regain some balance. The toner is supposed to remove some of the oil in your skin without being too harsh.
Other uses of toners are for anti-ageing routines. However, since doing my research, it’s clear to see that only special anti-ageing formulas will actually help. Ingredients like alpha hydroxy acid and glycolic acid actually contribute to preventing early ageing.

Where Do We Go From Here?
I am going to test out how my skin reacts when I remove toner from my skincare routine altogether. I usually use toner everyday after having removed my make up. Usually, I spritz it all over my face and neck to inject some moisture into the bare skin.
I am going to experiment to see if my skin changes without the daily toner.
Stay tuned to see how it goes!
What do you think of this daily product suddenly going out of fashion?
Will you still use toner?
