The Vintage Baby Names Making A Comeback For 2023
If you’re having a baby in 2023 and you’re stuck for unique, sweet and traditional names, this blog post is for you. I never wanted my baby to have the same name as every other little boy in his class but I also wanted something traditional and something that would grow with him. My sources tell me that, even this early in 2023, vintage names are coming back. So, grab a cuppa and your notebook and get ready to dive into the ones making a comeback this year!

Girls Names
Luna – In ancient Roman mythology, Luna was the moon goddess. The name Luna means “moon” in Latin and in several languages with Latin roots, including Spanish and Italian.
Iris – From the name of the flowering plant, which comes from the Greek iris, meaning “rainbow”.
Nellie – A short form of Eleanor, Ellen, Helen, Helena and Cornelia.
Olive – A Latin name, formed by the word oliva, meaning “olive tree”.
Hazel – From the English name for the tree, or nuts from the tree, which derives from the Old English haesel.
Alice – The name Alice is girl’s name of German origin meaning “noble”.
Josephine – French feminine variation of Joseph”Jehovah increases”
Ruby – A short form of the Biblical name Reuben and especially its streamlined form Ruben. As a gemstone name, it’s currently enjoying a fresh boom of popularity for girls – nearing the US Top 50 for the first time in almost a century.

Boys Names
Frankie – Form of Frank, a short form of Francis, which is an English form of the Italian name Francesco, from the Latin Franciscus, meaning “French”.
Edwin – From the Old English ead meaning “wealth, fortune, riches” and weard, meaning “guard”.
Reggie – From Reynold, which is of Norman origin, from the German ragin, meaning “advice” or “decision” and wald, meaning “ruler”.
Albie – From the Latin alba or albus, meaning “white”. Could also be from the Celtic alp, meaning “rock or crag”.
Silas – Derived from Silvanus, the Roman god of trees, Silas was an apostle of Paul in the New Testament. George Eliot (pen name of author Mary Ann Evans) gave the name a boost in 1861 with her novel “Silas Marner.” The name, which means “wood,” or “forest” gained popularity in the early 2000s, thanks to Silas Botwin, a character on Showtime’s “Weeds.”
Emmett – Meaning “universal,” Emmett is a masculine version of the German name Emma. Architect Emmett Hull helped make the name more popular in the South in the early 1900s for his many designs around Mississippi. Thirty years later, the murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till was a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement.
Everett – From the ancient Germanic name Everard, meaning “brave as a wild boar,” Everett re-entered the top 100 names for boys in 2018 after nearly a century. Though there aren’t many famous Everetts to account for the recent surge, George Clooney’s played a character by this name in the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou.” Everett is popular in the American South, with Rhett being a popular nickname after the character from “Gone With the Wind.”
