The Winning Post: Refurbished, Revisited, Reviewed

What’s life without a little, much needed treat every so often? My idea of heaven is a long, delicious dinner out, luxurious food and zero washing up. Luckily for me, this week I got to do just that.

You may remember my previous coverage of the Winning Post in Winkfield. The post has proved to be one of my most popular with regular hits every week no matter the season. It seems that good food never goes out of style.

Over the last few months, The Winning Post has undergone a massive refurbishment and to celebrate reopening their doors, they invited me along!

The Refurb

I feel like refurb is the understatement of the century. Your favourite Winkfield eatery has been completely transformed!

The entire footprint and floorplan is totally different. We walked into the front door and totally lost our bearings. They have undergone some insane work has moved, changed and transformed to make the best dining experience.

The bar has moved, the toilets have moved, there is more of an eatery feel and there are gorgeous nooks and niches where you can eat and chat in peace.

Personality shines through with a carousel horse sitting pride of place in the middle of the bar!

The Food

The Winning Post is well known as a foodie spot. On any given weeknight you’re likely to bump into local celebrities enjoying discreet meals with friends. With the refurbishment came an injection of flavour, ideas and spins on great British classics.

I am a foodie, it’s the way to my heart. I also like big portions and hearty meals. You will get all of that at the Winning Post!

Firstly, the venison and black pudding scotch egg is to DIE for! The yolk arrives in the warm scotch egg still runny. The salty outside is crunchy and takes the flavour to another level.

For my main meal I had the daily special: the venison haunch, broccoli & blue cheese puree with pickled mushrooms and parsnip crisp.

I died and went to food heaven!

The menu has so much to offer for meat lovers and those who love a good sized meal out.

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a classic fish and chips but the Winning Post elevate it. The south coast haddock falls apart on your fork and the chunky chips make it perfect.

My husband enjoyed the huge slow braised lamb shank for his main served with roots and garlic vegetables. To give it an extra kick of “stick to your ribs” he added a side of creamy colcannon. It was sublime. I almost didn’t get a look in, he basically inhaled it!

My Final Thoughts

If you’re in the area and want to find somewhere that will fill you up, flatter your style senses and impress you, the Winning Post is IT!

Sadly, on this visit, we couldn’t stay for dessert or a cocktail but both menus are incredible and offer so much.

We can’t wait to go back – but the next time we go, we’ll have childcare sorted.

They don’t house any highchairs so if you need any excuse to get a babysitter, that’s it!

Thanks for having me to the fab team at the Winning Post!
