How To Become A Skincare Blogger

Skincare and beauty bloggers represent a huge chunk of the beauty industry and our knowledge and insight is called on more and more as the industry evolves in the new COVID-era and new normal. People are less able to pop out to the shops on their lunch breaks and try their favourite beauty items, more and more they are turning to bloggers to answer all of their questions. Becoming a skincare blogger doesn’t have to be difficult, if you’re looking to join our amazing community, simply follow the following steps!

Online Steps

Domain & Hosting

Before you can start sharing your skincare ideas and reviews, you will need to create a platform to support this! To become a blogger, you will need to purchase a domain and hosting package from the likes of 123reg, GoDaddy or 1and1.

I would suggest purchasing a domain that is keyword rich and represents that brand you are trying to create with ease. It’s always best to try and get your hands on a domain that uses words like:
– skincare
– aesthetic
– skin
– beauty
– blog

Once you have secured your domain and hosting, you will need to create your blog using a CMS (also known as a content management system) such as WordPress, WIX or SquareSpace.

Social Media & Branding

When creating your very own skincare blog, it is important to create corresponding social media handles so that you can promote your posts, build your SEO presence and show off all of your amazing skincare content!

Social Media is a brilliant tool to any blogger in any sector and industry. It will allow you to tag brands that you’ve featured, contact fellow bloggers, find and comment on suitable blogs to link build and grow your audience. A blog is only ever as good as its social media strategy, in my opinion!

Again, it is key to ensure that your social media handles match that of your skincare blogger domain – try to avoid using obscure or personal handles as this may confuse your audience!

Skincare Steps

It’s fair to say that when you feel excited and confident about something, the more you are able to talk about it. When you have a blog, regardless of the subject you choose to focus on, you will need to create regular relevant and valuable content – whether that is in the means of copy, photos, videos or banners.
To become a successful skincare blogger, you need to make sure that you understand what sort of content you plan to share with your future audience.

Do your research

There are many different ways to write about skincare, depending on what you want to share. If, like me, you want to start with the skincare basics, or you’d like to be more niched to skincare and aesthetic products such as non-invasive surgery, you need to do your research!

It’ll be key to know and understand your competition so that you can try to be better, compete on a good playing field and give the audience what they aren’t fulfilling.

Find Your Niche

As mentioned above, skincare is a broad topic that can branch into skincare and its relationship with beauty, you could create relevant content that focuses on anti-ageing, you could become a skincare reviewer for high-end products – the list is endless.

However, to become a successful skincare blogger, it is important to find and understand your niche. Often, your niche will help your audience to interact and engage with your posts on a higher level. If your posts are washy and your blog covers everything, your audience may find it hard to follow your journey.

Consider Your Audience

It sounds basic but it’s something a lot of newbie bloggers forget. Who are your audience? How are they likely to access your content? Would you audience understand skincare gifs or memes? Would it be better to create cornerstone content that is meaty and long?

Be ready to commit

Spoiler alert, blogging may look glamorous but I spend approximately 75% of my time in my comfy clothes with a cup of tea taking blog photos, creating blog content, editing blog posts and links, optimisating images, scheduling posts, engaging on social media and more. The list of a bloggers’ day is truly endless.

If you make your blog your baby (I don’t know who I would be without LoveRosiee, it sits at the top of my CV and has secured me more jobs and carved my career for me) dedicating so much time to your blog is just par for the course. If you are in it for instant payments, events and freebies, blogging might not be for you!

In the five years I’ve been blogging, I’ve seen many fledgling bloggers come and go – hoping for their big shot having only put a few posts live with little bites from big brands.

Brand Collaborations

My blog was only a few weeks into being live when I landed my first brand collaboration and that was from a very small fashion brand looking to spread the word of their new website. In an almost unheard of turn of fate, this brand reached out to me.

However, in my years of blog experience, it is rare for it to happen this way! It is more common for you, as the blogger, to put together a pitch along with your media kit and send emails to brands if you have the correct contact details.

Brand collaborations are an exciting element of blogging, but it is key to follow ASA guidelines to the letter!

Once you’ve mastered all of these things, you’ll be on your way to becoming a successful skincare blogger! The road may be marked with hurdles but it is worth every single hour!
