Are Skincare Routines Bogus?

Welcome skincare fans, new and old. You have arrived to a place where we can be brutally honest about all things skincare. Today, I want to address a question that I am asked, oh maybe three times a week!
Are skincare routines bogus?

The Answer

If I’m being honest, the answer is both yes and no!

Good skincare and skin health is dependant on many factors:
> skin type
> skincare products
> price tags
> consistency
> time

I rate Procoal’s Skincare Items!

Skin Type

I’ve covered so much on the different skin types in my recent post but it is really important to recognise and understand what your skin type is before you go wild in the shopping aisles (or online) and blow your budget on lotions, potions, creams and serums.

Personally, I have combination skin, I suffer with breakouts on the run up to my period and I do suffer with build up and blemishes on my forehead. I have to treat my skin nicely for it to be nice to me. I have a regular exfoliating routine that strips my skin in the gentlest way as well as a daily cream, a nightly serum and a gorgeously thick lotion that is for my neck and chin only.

Clearer skin days

My skin, on the whole, is on the clear side. However, with no make up, I am conscious of my red blemishes and scars from my teenage acne days. There’s nothing like all-day zoom calls to remind you that your skin is not looking so hot!

Skincare Products

I swear by ARK Skincare

As a blogger, I am lucky enough to be able to trial and review loads of different skincare brands all the time. I pride myself on being an honest blogger and I never give my opinion on a product until I have used it to death – sometimes hitting pan before I unseal my lips! I take LoveRosiee seriously and I would never want my followers and readers to waste their money because of my content!

Skincare products are key to whether or not skincare routines actually work! If you have discovered what your skincare type is, the next step is to get some products to give your skin the moisture that it needs.

I have rated products from many different scales – from Poundland and Savers to Harvey Nichols! Not to mention, Palmers, Korean cosmetics and Procoal!

The key thing for me, for the last almost-five years, has been creaminess without the extra oily layer, gently fragranced creams and soothing on skin.

My skin is combination – that means I have both dry and oily skin. This can be a nightmare in any day to day situation – back when I was in the office Monday to Friday, the fans and heating played havoc with my flaking skin. When I go on holiday to the beach, I look like an oil slick by the time it’s dinner and drinks on the balcony. Winter can be a killer for annoying little patches on my face and neck. Summer is better all-round but I take blot-tissues with me everywhere I go!

My favourite skincare brands are:
> ARK Skincare
> Antipodes
> Soap & Glory
> Dove
> Nivea

All of the above soothe my sore dry patches and don’t leave me looking like a Kripsy Creme on the other areas.

It’s not about the money, money – just kidding, for me it’s all about the money! Don’t get me wrong, I love to be extravagant and treat myself every so often (ahem, ABH Aurora Glow Kit) but I do not feel the need to break the bank on my skincare routine – and you shouldn’t either!

Antipodes Skincare Are A Win!

I will not pay over the odds for skincare and my entire skincare routine will not break £100 – not only that, loads of it easy to source in your local supermarket or drug style store on your high street.

You do not need to spend over the top for a good skincare routine – period!

Consistency

This is a biggie – my skin would not be as happy as it is right now (as I sit at my desk in my comfies with a face shining from moisturiser) if I did not do it all consistently.

A skincare routine is not bogus if you can keep it up. You do not need to do anything elaborate like buy a skincare fridge or start applying cream at 3pm and don’t stop till you go to bed.

Simply, apply your creams, lotion and serums every single day – be that in the morning or in the evening before bed, or both, and keep doing it. You will notice straight away if you fall off of the wagon and your skin will tell you.

The key to any skincare routine is consistency. That’s just how it is!

Time

Aint that right

I’ll be honest, you aren’t going to buy some budget-friendly skincare items, slather them on once and you’re good to go. It does take time. For any skincare routine to work, you need to invest in yourself and give it a little time .

I actually treat my ten minutes of skincare routine each night as a slice of me-time. I sit in front of the tv in my bedroom, usually in my towel with wet hair and I just warm up each product in my hands and gently work it into my neck and face in small circles, trying not to pull at the skin.

My entire routine takes a maximum of ten minutes and some days it gets done quicker but some days I take my sweet old time.

But I do it every single day without fail – unless I’ve had one too many glasses of wine, which is rare right now, I’ll be honest!
